Swift $$$

Forums:

The numbers are just ridiculous. People like live music that is for sure.

  • The biggest windfall is headed straight to Swift, who stands to make as much as $4.1 billion from the Eras Tour
  • She gave every truck driver on the tour an extra $100,000 this summer, and she gifted $55 million in bonuses to sound technicians, caterers, dancers and other staff
  • In Los Angeles, where Swift performed six shows, the California Center for Jobs and the Economy predicted a $320 million boost
  • Hotel analytics group STR calculated tour cities produced a $208 million bump in hotel room revenue
  • In Seattle, Swift set a record for single-day revenue for downtown hotels — notching $7.4 million
  •  a conservative estimate — $864,000 for each show — for Swift’s merch sales inside venues
  • In California, Susie Cakes sold $50,000 worth of Swift-themed cupcakes
  • Swift heads to the movies — where global pre-sales have already surpassed $100 million, according to AMC.
  • Eras, too, is onto its next phase. In November, the pop star will take her 146-show tour international

Her devotion among the under-25 female demographic is impressive.  As a 50-something male, I don't get it, but to each their own.  Admittedly, I haven't delved too deeply into her catalog, but what I have heard hasn't sounded extraordinary, more like disposable pop for the herd to chew on.

I didn't get it either so I wanted to just watch her solo. No stage show, lights, or dancers, Now I get it.

Very, very good. Not really my cup of tea, but entertainment wise she's basically the total package.

Pop fluff. She's easy on the eyes, but she's no Katy Perry.

With my daughter's guidance I did a dive into her music a few months ago. Most of it is forgettable. I stumbled into the Lake Pond Sessions and it's decent.

Mike I so strongly disagree

katy perry? does she even write her own music? lyrics?

TayTay does, and she has been a passionate artist since a littel kid.

hate all y'all want lol

she is a sagi goddess and role model for women

*her entire crew received a living wage and health benefits for the Eras tour

and i barely know her songs, and still support every last thing about this woman, who, trust, will be an icon for life

and deservedly so!

Jill, I was just being a pig, but not a hateful one. I know nothing of Swift or Perry's music, ethics, or business practices. I just know what my eyes like.

Recently delved deep into her catalog, just to see what all the fuss is about. She is a really good songwriter with solid pop sensibilities (and her early country stuff isn't horrible either). I can't think of anything bad to say about her or her music, even if I don't think I'll be spinning it at home much. I might check out the movie, since I know I won't be shelling out $1000 to see her in a stadium any time soon.

The reason she sounds like "disposable pop for the herd to chew on" is because she's been the dominant force in pop music for a decade at least - I figured out that most of the poppy chick songs I've heard in the background in stores, etc. for the last several years have actually been all TayTay. She's part of the Zeitgeist of the 2010s and now the 2020s. Maybe even this generation's Dylan, without the acerbic political tendencies. Arguably more consistent.

No hate here. I do hate the media frenzy she stirred up with Kelce though, that's a bit much. Read an actual news story about how she went to a football game and sat in a luxury box. Ridiculous.

She's alright though.

Now that's funny...

As for her songwriting credentials, I have seen or read the following people call her an excellent songwriter: Bruce Springsteen, Joni Mitchell, Steve Earle, Brandi Carlile, Dolly Parton and probably another dozen that escape me right now. The above songwriters know a thing or two about songwriting and I think she passes the test. Maybe not everyone's taste in songs, but excellent songs still the same.

p.s. There have also been a number of articles about how her "romance" with Travis Kelce has injected a huge new demographic and amount of income to the NFL franchise. More than any other thing that has happened in years. Money making machine.

oh Mike! i knew you couldn't have been as angry at her as i thought lolol

We are going to check out the movie to see what the concert was all about. I do not know any of the music, but willing to see whats up.

That football skit on SNL over the weekend was pretty funny.

This is such a great article if you want to read about an obsessive community built around music.

One can enter Swiftiedom at any level: avocation or vocation, background music or full-time job. Being a Swiftie at the highest level means access to an all-consuming, all-absorbing empire of evidence, where all the questions have answers, all the mysteries are solved, where you get to feel excited and smart and involved with something bigger than yourself without ever looking up from your phone.

Let’s go straight to that level. That’s the level where we read the codes she leaves in her liner notes with random capital letters to equal the name of the guy that the song is about or a secret message. The level where she seems to indicate to her fans which album is being recorded next via a series of hidden images in an Instagram post. The level where, as I began writing this, legions of fans were crunching and computing and tabulating data to determine if (and why and how) the number 112 is significant when it comes to predicting the releases of her rerecordings.

And meanwhile, I saw on TikTok that a woman whose handle is @nikkiking23 solved the 112 thing, and by this far in the story I will declare it basically undeniable. (SHE IS RELEASING ALBUMS IN 112-DAY CYCLES BECAUSE 112 IS THE NUMBER OF SONGS THAT WERE SOLD TO SCOOTER BRAUN WITHOUT HER PERMISSION!!!!!!!!!!!)

WHAT JILL SAID

She's a cultural phenomenon. Historically as big as Barnum.

I said it.
