Summertime Done Come And Gone

Forums:

When the fairs start up you know summers almost gone. Always a melancholy feeling for me. But out of 7 entries this year, I scored 6 ribbons. A 2nd place in the rocks and minerals category (presentation is everything), a 3rd for a pumpkin, and 3rd for canned homemade wild grape jam, and a 1st place best of show for my patriotic first day covers.  My oh my.

Who else enters stuff at the fairs ?

Fairs are a throwback to a different time. They're cool.

Congrats on your ribbons, but what makes a grape "wild"?

Attitude

Wild Grapes = not store bought, home planted, or vinyard grown. Picked em out in the woods. Normally it would be a little early for wild grapes to ripen enough to can, but this year was different,,, you could smell them ripened in the air, just follow your nose.  Pumpkins aren't usually ready either, but it was a short growing season this year. Everything was ready early. Buds too. Strangest growing year in memory. Looks like we're in for a long cold winter in the Northeast.

Last year's fair was covid canceled, so it was nice to get back to a state of semi normalcy this year.

Congrats!

Tons of wild Grapes in North Jersey. Just walk in nature and look for the leaves and you'll find them. It's a jungle out there! I swear it's like being in some tropical rainforest with all the vegetation and vines and edible fruit! Too bad the weather sucks. Now is the season of the grape. Don't know the strain but they're purple when ripe and are delicious! Concord?

that's cool ras.

Good showing Ras!
