Santa Barbara was a fun show. Warren Zevon was drunk out of his mind and started insulting the hippies at one point. Jerry came out and played a song with Elvin Bishop (riding high on the success of "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" featuring a pre-Starship Mickey Thomas) and a Hells Angel brought his bike on stage coming out of drums and did revs to the NFA beat. We were sitting in the back of the stadium and someone from the crew came back to check the sound and told us we were in the best spot in the stadium. After the "US Blues" encore Jerry told the crowd to have "long hot summer". It was also the first time I had seen them since the drums segment became a permanent feature (last show had been Sacramento in January) and we all thought that it went on way too long.
Made the trip out from SF for those late August RR shows. We had heard about the earlier shows and how great the place was so decided to make the drive. Too many great stories from that adventure to even start to get into, suffice to say that walking in the first day and having a guy get up from the front row and tell us "I've been saving these seats for you" was just the beginning.
To tell the truth I don't remember, but I assume we only had tickets to the rescheduled shows. I was living in the Haight at that time and word got back about this fantastic venue they played so at some point we heard about these shows and got tickets. I drove out with Dringle (you can see him dancing in his painted suit to Truckin' in the GD movie) and another friend, we stayed at my sisters in Denver and partied all night after the shows up in the canyons. I still remember driving back down the mountain as the sun came up after the second show.
