Stuff to do in San Fran and Sonoma

Forums:

Will be visiting next month and looking for recommendations.  Thanks!

Hit the Sonoma Coast. Not sure if you mean town of Sonoma or Sonoma County in general. If its the latter, go to the Coast... Fort Point is my favorite spot to hit in San Francisco, then Baker Beach.

Smoke local weed. Drink local wine. Visit TxR.

Take advantage of nature and the beautiful Weather due to the worst period of drought the West has experienced in 1200 years... go for a hike in some Redwoods, hit some beaches, ride a bike across the GG bridge, kayak the bay from Sausalito.  If you're looking for a decent Dead cover bands, Michaels on Main in Soquel/Santa Cruz does a Sunday GD series.

Wander around The Presidio

Hog Island Oyster Co, on the coast west of Sonoma .  Pick up some wine, cheese, grab a picnic table and a bag of fresh oysters and smile.

1. Don't call it San Fran or the locals will be after you.    I kid I kid.

I always like the coastal trail and sutro baths

Definitely spend some time in GGP.

I prefer Russian River to Sonoma, just seems more chill

Eat - so much good food.   Partial to so many restaurants but love Ebisu for Sushi.  Greens for the view.  Papalote for the salsa.   etc etc etc.

Walk across GGB

Walk alleys of S.F.

2nd the vote for Russian River

Those are pretty much all faux locals. The ones who moved there 10 - 20 years ago and complain that the city isn't what it used to be.

Most natives don't care much about that stuff.

Then again, it's harder and harder to find native San Franciscans nowadays.

My mom (and I) were born in SF.  She didn't like the name "Frisco."

Here is one of my favorite drives, mostly because there are a lot of good views and nature to explore along the way... and refreshment stops like Anderson Valley Brewing, makers of Boont Amber and others.

If you really like beer, could begin at the home of Pliny the Elder / Younger, Russian River brewery, in Windsor.

Guessing this route is not completely in Sonoma County, but close enough.

If you're into botanical gardens, there's a nice one on an oceanside bluff in Mendocino, too.

^ but love Ebisu for Sushi.

^ Hog Island Oyster Co,

^ botanical gardens, there's a nice one on an oceanside bluff in Mendocino,

check check and doublecheck - all great suggestions. I also always suggest Armstrong St Pk over Muir Woods for redwood forest trails, though I don't know how fires have impacted the area.

Does anyone know this place

I passed by there 2 summers ago. Seemed like a good place to stay right across the street from a small beach.

So this will be a little bit out of the way if you are driving from SF to Sonoma, but if you like BBQ, sitting on the bay, and an eclectic Wicker Man vibe then it is the place to go. https://www.blackstarpig.com/

And if you like wine and find yourself driving through Anderson Valley on the way to Mendocino it is some of the best Pinot in the world.

Funny LLOLLO, we just arrived in Mendocino for my birthday weekend!

I've had dinner there a few times and it was really good.

St Orres has really good granola.

I call it San Fran , and I grew up there.

What do the "locals" know -- they're all from Indiana.

Don't call it FRISCO

Ive been to St.Orres many times, really neat place, its in Gualala, about 3 hours from Yerba Buena (hows that locals?) , beautiful ride on the 1...

I took the ! PCH from Santa Monica to Coos Bay 2 summers ago. Some of it was some scary shit driving. Luckily I was on some good weed that made me concentrate otherwise I would have pulled over and freaked out and slept until it was over.
