Paging Schnee!

Did you see my question about check-in time range on the old Zone S&S thread? If you answered, I never got to see it....

Paging Schnee again: A S&S alum friend from Maine suddenly is interested in going this year. Do you know of anyone who needs a roommate? Is this even still possible?

Arriving noonish Thursday.

i think I'm more pumped this year than I was last...probably because the Dusters will be there.

Go Dusters! Adding you to the list...

I wish I was there. BeNice is just having to much fun in the sun for me to handle smiley

1.  Check in for the resort starts at 12pm on the 8th and 9am on the 9th (please dont come at 9am if you can help it, we are always late)  For the hotel, if you are arriving on a SS shuttle from the airport, the hotel is expecting you and you can check in... if you are coming on your own, you can check in starting at 9am but your room will not likely be ready until after 3pm.

2.  If there are any spots available they will be on that secret group FB page.  I can help if need be if they run into the NO EXCEPTIONS rule.  Keep in mind that a last minute change will cost $225 for me to make all that happen though.

I just want to remind everyone to bring bug spray, the mosquitos can be brutal.

Also, bring some hand sanitizer...  last year a bad bug ran around the resort.  People like to blame the food but it was indeed the a flu.  Its a huggy event and people are passing this and that.  Just remember that people are coming from all over in airplanes and picking up nasty plane germs along the way.  I hand sanitize like a mofo! (my face too, people think Im weird but shit I hate getting sick).

I also avoid the little snack bar grill by the pool.  I dunno, it just doesnt seem right to me.   The other restauranty grill by the buffet is pretty good.

My favorite restaurant is Cibu because it has a salad bar.  I also like the french, there is a lava cake desert there that is ridiculous.  Japanese is pretty good if you want sushi and miso.  Not the greatest sushi but its refreshing.  I have good restaurant suggestions too for Puerto Morelos if anyone is interested.  Its about a $20 cab ride there from the hotel.  Once you are in town you can get better rates back to the hotel.  I also know where the good tacos are on the locals side of town.

My absolute favorite thing is the hot chocolate on the breakfast buffet.  Damn that shit is good.

See you there!

Can't wait. Big cold front on the way...

Thanks Schnee for all the tips, especially about the food and bug spray. We appreciate you.

Our friend now found another mutual friend (do you know Bryan D. from Occidental?) who has an open bed spot, but I haven't heard if he's booked flights. Good to know that you can assist if needed.

We plan on arriving at around 1:30pm - 2pm on the 9th, so all good.

Safe travels everyone! We fly on Wednesday.

Hola, I leave Cozumel for San Francisco on the 10th...so won't be going over to Strings.

We just saw a lot of the musicians at Hangtown a about a month ago.

Sorry to not get to meet you Schnee!  Someday.....

I will bring some acrimony from the long ago ole Zone post when we do eventually meet.

I was just in this thread because I needed to see if the Viva Zone got me in with the December 2nd deadline.

Have fun Voodoo and everyone else. The hotel there is very nice.Wear your hat's & sunscreen.

Solid group of folks here. No spot taken, although I wish...

If you are snorkeling over there on the Yucatan (I am currently on Cozumel Island) you may see the spotted eagle rays. They are everywhere here now.T'is the season.I'm lucky they are a little early this year, but sad the the climate/ocean is in a weird cycle.

Reposting a reminder that was on the old Zone about the Zoner Meetup this Friday, 6:45pm at the bar w/ the swings at the Strings & Sol site.

>I will bring some acrimony from the long ago ole Zone post when we do eventually meet.

I dont remember this but as long as there is some Bart and Bart's butter involved, Ill be happy to rehash.  If I even remember.  I tend to post and move on and never really remember what all the fuss is ever about.

It got very hot and muggy down here yesterday everyone just to let you know.

Schnee ,I can barely remember anything these days either.  Rarely posted on the old Zone  but do remember your sense of humor always made me laugh. Hopefully we will meet. Two years ago at Strings and Sol it was raining (like horrendous down pours that Saturday).I had been diving for ten days in Cozumel (came over on Playa Carmen ferry)to Tulum to cavern/cenote scuba with my dear Mexican divemaster for 3 days. I got a room at Jade Now and my plan that trip was to fly home to California from Cancun on Sunday. Like all  good travel plans.....they often have hic-ups with opportunities to challenge oneself. After diving in a remote Cenote jungle all day, we finally got to Puerto Morales. Nice hotel, but that year there was just a road of sand to Jade ( sister resort to Saffire on the south part of Puerto Morales). There were 4 cars & 1 transport van - us too-stuck in two feet of wet sand. My  Mexican friend and his son walked up the road to the paved part of town and found 3 Mexican outdoor  worker type men. The 5 of them literally picked up our Hydai car and moved it to the hotel about 1/8 mile.  Amazing sight in the pouring rain. All the tourists in the still stuck vehicle's were even more stuck at this time. My friend negotiated with the worker's ,drivers and tourists to get them out of the two foot holes for $.Everyone was happy.

Schnee,if you run into Tim Corbone (RRE) tell him Howdy from me.Andy G. as well.(Grass Valley fans/friends he will know)

~Life is short, love ,smile and ride the music wave~

You can't be there and NOT run into Tim. He's everywhere...

We're in, leaving tomorrow, stoooooooooked !

Great news, 6:45 Friday meet up at swing bar at resort. don't make us hunt you down!

Phew, BeNice, I thought you were insinuating we had beef left over from the EC vs WC days.  lolol  hahahahaha

I remember 2 years ago.....  the roads were so flooded the locals were fishing in the street.

I LOVE Puerto Morelos really really love it there.

Heading to Atlanta this evening to hotel it before leaving at 9:45.

i am pumped.

Time for a cocktail...

Llobregat if you see Bryan D. from Occidental, say YO for me.

We'll be freezing over here.   Have a blast y'all!

Schnee...no beef here from me....ever.  I do not eat beef, and only hold  a grudge for about 10 minutes if that. I am not really a poster. It is Bart's playground. ~Haha~ We had a challenging year and all is calm in "Ahora"!   Let's get together the next time you go west.

Life can be short so when I go it's up to me to make my own happiness.

So excited for all at Strings and Sol.     Festival!

One little tip from me ( I have Mexican long, long time friend's here). They really don't want to talk "Trump" in their casual encounter with you. Any other conversation will be a Grateful day to them. Most of them in the worker's industry hate their own corrupt President/regime. And they are already suffering economically  from the day Trump won.  My friend here says its like poking a wound. You will love them and vice versa if you are simply nice.

Just my 2 cents. But don't tip 2 pesos!  That's like one tenth of one cent.  Trump or Cartel people probably own some of those "Now" hotel chains.  I have no idea And I think tips are possibly included in your package. But- A crisp U.S. dollar here and there is very appreciated...and more if appropriate.

Miss you Bart!heart

Have a GREAT time ya'll!

I'm there in spirit.

On the plane, see you all soon,

thanks for "the view from the ground" BeNice

Swing bar 6:45....

My abdominal muscles hurt from laughing so hard from my conversation with Schnee last night.

An EPIC version of Neil Young's Alabama last night by Salmon. Vince told me later that a mariachi band was supposed to come up on stage but they were no-shows so they filled the time with Alabama. Great late night partying in the palapa with the Salmon guys, even the 3 am run in the rain with umbrellas back to my room.

larry keel's late night set was a kick in the ass

Have a blast, voodoo, fafa, ...all

Listening to RRE now

Someone give Jim Roe a big wet kiss from the Zone.

(((Stream)))

Have a great time all.

Got ya covered Slick. Former AU football player...part of our party.

headed down now. After the first Keller Keel song I'm screaming you a message.

Dang.  Just got online and saw this. Been busy all day.

Hearing "Pancho and Lefty" now.

Thanks for the thought Rick.

What a fest!  So nice to meet Mrs. Voodoo and Mars FaFa too, but missed hanging w/ Schnee, a busy woman !

Alabam was def a highlight, as well as any jam w/ Danny Barnes... and of course Allie Kral w/ YMSB.

we are recovering for a couple more days in Merida before we head back to cold Portland.

Questions for Schnee:

1) my Columbia sun hat w/ Oregon bluegrass Fun Meyer button was in lost and found, according to a photo posted on S&S FB group page. Who do I talk to to get it back? IT's my long-time fester hat!

2) when we book for next year, are we able to include another couple who are S&S virgins on our reservation? Would they be able to have their own room or must they share w/ us?

Leftover giving away their sets at livesalmon.com

Bump for Schnee...please see my questions above...and happy holidays!

12/12/2016 "Jack Straw" The Infamous Stringdusters

https://youtu.be/G1lGtZiQlNo

Thanks Voodoo! How is the transition back to real life going?

Felt much better in Mexico, it's been a rough ride here at home.

A virus has been going through the house since Thanksgiving

Warming up for Xmas, so we have that

How about you and Jim?

Watching myself get down on the beach made me feel better smiley

Did you guys go through a slight depression when you hit home? I know we do.

Are you returning next year? Right now we say "no", especially if it's moved to a larger place with more folks. The number now is perfect.

I'm pretty sure, though, that by the time April rolls around we'll pull the trigger again.

Have you seen the Dusters download from their first main stage set? It's only one CD. I think there is missing music. I'm sure Nicki sang Somebody to Love...did I imagine that?

Hi Voodoo and Skevap!

Yes, though we stayed in Mexico an extra 3 days (Merida was cool, btw), it has been hard to get back to work and then suddenly have to be in holiday mode w/ my in-laws... that all starts tomorrow. We are both fighting colds, too. Things will improve after Mercury Retrograde ends on Jan 8!

Next year maybe we'll decorate before we leave for S&S, so maybe it will be easier on the return side!

Will check out the Dusters, thanks!
