saw them once during my early days as a dead fan and had really high hopes due to the recommendation of a friend, i dosed up and expected jaw dropping improv and magic. the show was terrible. some of the playing during the songs was totally competent but the jams went nowhere and the whole style of their music was cringeworthy at best.
the next time i saw them was for free at a festival, i had no expectations, no doses, and just danced with a girl i was into the whole time, and I had a pretty good time, but it was not a show in the same realm as a good dead show or jazz show, there is no real face melting or magic happening at all, its just lighthearted, well played music to socialize and dance to. all the talkers at all the other jam shows should go to SCI, nobody plays background music like SCI. although i really could do without the bluegrass/techno fusions...that like eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and then putting canned tuna on it. tuna is fine in a tuna salad sandwich but isnt something you go around applying to other sandwich standards.
>>>Yep. There's a lot of joy at Red Rocks every summer.
i think the EF festival might be fun, but all in all its not my scene, id rather see a band with more engaging music, i dont really like to socialize during a set of music.
i would not pay to see SCI again, but if they did HSBG or another free fest near me i would be there.

Had a great time at the show last night. Excellent band. Encore was Don't Let Go; would have made Jerry proud.
Peace.

No band is for everybody. I can't figure out the big attraction to WSP. Phish doesn't do it for me anymore.

Yep. There's a lot of joy at Red Rocks every summer.
They take their music seriously, themselves, not as much.
