nice that Jerry Day was moved up to Sat this year!

Gonna be  a great w/e Jerry Day>JRAD>PLF

Wowza!

Save a spot for me!

P&F is the day after JRAD? How fortuitous. I need to figure out a way to make this happen.

Wow, a free show in the park. A sweet little venue too.

This one is for the multitudes who endlessly whine about ticket prices.

Now everyone will whine that they couldn't get the free tickets, as I imagine they'll go fast.

And naturally, it's the same day as My Morning Jacket at the Frost. I'm getting a little old for this type of deal, but I may have to try for a double-header.

It's a good bet that some of the JRADers will be in Phil's group, as they have a week off after their Frost show the night before. I wonder if Phil will sit in with them?

Just yesterday I listened to a KQED story about efforts to remediate the Stern's grounds and trees that were damaged by flooding awhile back.  Never been to a show there... wasn't going to go to JRAD at Frost again but maybe I'll figure that out.

Hope the site will be able to withstand the crowds.

>>>Hope the site will be able to withstand the crowds<<<

Yeah, I was thinking about that too.

I know that park well. When I was little I lived about a mile from it and i was there almost every Sunday afternoon charging all over the place with my older brother and his friends. The venue is just sort of there, in the middle of the park with no real boundaries.

Over the years I've only attended a couple of the free Stern Grove shows because of how early one must arrive to find ANYWHERE to park ANYWHERE near that park (it's impossible) and then set up a spot, and both times I went were before they started setting up fences and people needed a (free) ticket to get in.

On show days do they now not allow people without tickets into the park at all? And even if they don't, I could see lots of heads swarming around the place, looking to sneak in, which probably wouldn't be that hard. Especially for heads.

Glad I won't be working that event.

Still, it's a great little spot for Phil, a very unique and very cool setup for a Phil show.

BTW Nancy, how did you hear about this? Where is it officially announced???

BTW pt. 2.

How cool is it we're still talking about cool Phil shows in 2022?

LONG LIVE PHIL LESH!!!!!!!

BTW pt. 3

The theatre isn't really that "small", it just feels that way.

But it is very cool.

an ad on a MUNI bus.

Premature, as the schedule was to be officially released in May...

How does one procure these 'free tickets'?

Mmm. Liz Phair.

I haven't been to Stern Grove for many years.

Would love to get a ticket.

Maybe on May 3?

Eventbrite handled the tix last year. Ticket drop ~2 weeks prior to show. Gotta be on it...

And they have fenced-in the whole grove so tunneling is an option for the ticket-less

Remember seeing Preservation Hall Jazz there in 75 ? maybe 76

Place had a wonderful smell of eucalyptus and cocaine

Thanks for the info.

I drove past the park a couple of weeks ago and noticed that there was fencing blocking the 19th Ave. entrance. I thought it was because the park might still be closed because of the flood.

Still, I was mainly thinking about the little chain link fence that goes along the north side of the park that borders the residential street. Even when I was five it was easy to hop over that. I wonder if they close off that street to the public on show days.

And Tower of Power with... Too Short???

Ooof. I have personally endured two situations involving Too Short. Both involved violence, gunfire & blood.

I like ToP, but I won't be at that show.

8/14 Stern Grove definitely has potential to be a total circus if they’re not really smart about handling the certain overcrowding.

What are the typical showtimes for Stern Grove sets? Afternoons only, or does it go into evenings?

I think the shows start around 2:00 and are over before sundown. It looks like Midnight North is opening for Phil, so he'll almost certainly play a 1-set show that day.

With the free Jerry Day on Saturday, JRAD at the Frost that night and then a free Phil show on Sunday, that weekend is shaping up to be a crazy Dead Fest. I would think there could be many folks from out of the area, thinking they can see it all.

Personally, I don't do the Jerry Day thing, too early, too crowded, too difficult to get there, and since I already have a ticket for My Morning Jacket at the Frost on Sunday evening I doubt I'll make it to the Phil show (which, because of the setting sucks for me) so I guess I'll have to settle for just JRAD & MMJ.

Poor me.

I'll check out Phil at Stern Grove if I can get a ticket! Gandhi been there in years!

For better or worse, this line could probably be repeated for every/almost every PLF show this Summer:

"It looks like Midnight North is opening for Phil, so he'll almost certainly play a 1-set show that day"

(but will stub you down)

Ha

Got a table seat when you volunteered back -in -the -day

*sigh*

Still might try for a freebie "ticket" in advance, and hope that a friend will  save me some space on  up in the Eucalyptus grove. It was so damn crowded at Stern Grove the ONE time I was there for a show about 20 years ago. Maybe this freebie "ticket" system isn't all bad.

I did just buy tix to see Molly Tuttle with Old Crow Medicine Show at the Mountain Winery and will enjoy having a reserved seat and not having to run the gauntlet  at Stern for that one. Yeah, might just stick with seeing Phil and friends at the Frost.

The freebie ticket still doesn't gaurabtee you entree. They give away more tickets than there is capacity. Stupid, but true.

I get that, and presumably those who show up relatively early should be able to gain entry - with a ticket

so just how early do ticket holders need to get in line ?

I plan on being there by 9:00

Free reservations open on Tuesday, August 2 at 2pm

Reservations are required but don't guarantee entry. Entry is on a first-come, first-served basis

Free General Admission reservations may be made for up to four people (one per person)

Free ADA/Senior section reservations may be made for up to two people for spaces that are specifically reserved for ADA/Seniors (65+)

Be there at sunrise - 9AM is right!  Woz, will you hold spots?

Obviously we need the Zone's leading live music strategists who live in SF to develop a strategy to get as many Zoners in as possible.

Who will lead this effort?

For example, Zoners who are 65+ could each sponsor a younger Zoner. ;)

Or, we could raise funds for a table... or scope out a hole in the fence...

Disappointed with the 90-minute set, but yeah, that seems to be the norm and the venue looks cool.

A table would be the way to go, but who among us would put in $500 for 90 minutes of Phil?

Plus Midnight North, lunch, and parking, of course frown

Hoping to get a last row spot under the trees.
