spring 1981

We drove down to the city from upstate for the 3/10 msg show. It was fun and a long day. One of the 4 of us going to the show was a scalper and got us obstructed he is seats on jerry's side. We had to climb over a section to get to them and the seats went backstage and were soon filled with hells angels, their women and coolers of beer. It was a cool place to watch the action. We had dropped off a Filipino girl who rode with us and picked her up after the show she had home made roller up Asian treats. Another highlight was a NYC cop repeatedly told a dosed out dead head to get on the sidewalk. The cops on horseback, he tells the guy again....up on the sidewalk! Next, he wacks him in the head with his club. He gets up on the sidewalk.

The same crew minus the Filipino girl went up to Utica and got shut out. Ugly scene outside, crowd pushes into glass doors, doors break, cops rush in on horseback and push crowd back. I run into a former role dealer friend who tells me he popped a door, got in, then got maced.

Later on in the spring we went up to glens falls and up to Cornell show. Cornell is still one of my all time faves, Ithaca was only 45 minutes from my school. I traveled with my local friend's in back of big Mark's truck. I tossed a mattress out of 6th floor window to sit on in the truck. We were already loaded, it was cool watching it drop to the ground. This and other fun adventures lead to me taking 15 years to complete my bachelor's degree. These years were my favorite year's for the dead. It was still a unknown quanity in the larger culture. The lot scene hadn't exploded yet and could usually show up and find tickets. The music was great, not sure what was happening backstage, but out front was fun.

Cool story. I love that Cornell show. It was a good pick for the 30 trips release.

I didn't know it was included on that music set, in the past I had suggested that they release it as a dicks picks. I have three copies, original audience from about a week after the show, sbd and a matrix. Loved the shakedown, we bought a sunshine daydream frisbee. It was very cool, super trippy. Now vanished

March 81 MOTB recordings some of my all time favorite dead, thanks!

I went to all 5 Europe March 81 shows, from London to Essen, Germany, gregulator...

WOW!!!

That is awesome. They originally were going to play the Rainbow in 72 to start Europe 72 but it was changed to the Wembley Empire Pool, which is the same place they played to close Europe 90 tour. (renamed Wembley Arena)

Birdsong set 2 opener?!

cool

You probably saw that link with Essen pro-shot. Legendary. Plus I think it's a cleaner copy upgrade from what was being traded back in the day

5/11 new haven...^^...my first show...

Rutgers<<

I was literally caught without a ticket and . . . discovered beneath a truck.

You could hear the show from the back loading dock.

^^^^The weekend in upstate NY to close the tour had it all, medium size venues, and long, well played sets.  20 songs in Ithaca, and 23 in Syracuse, with only one repeat. Hearing the opening chords of UJB as an encore was mind blowing^^^^

bump

Did both Stanley's and had front row seats for College Park.  Then caught Hampton, both Spectrum's, and Rutgers.

Loved the band at this point in time, powerful and smooth.  5/1/81 is still one of my top ten shows and should have been the 1981 selection for the 30 Trips set..

I did the MSG shows on 3/9 and 3/10 as well as Nassau on 5/6 and 5/9. The two MSG shows are the best back to back GD shows I attended. Both nights dripped with energy, the music was detailed and articulate and the energy was sublime. My Favorite Scarlet>Fire, Must've Been the Roses and a other chestnuts. The Nassau shows were really good too but don't touch the intensity of MSG.

Greg do you think that the odd years are consistently better than the even years in gd history?

Not more than I believe weed might work

Greg do you believe Epstein killed himself?
