Researchers say the findings are quite concerning and could have vast implications for the long-term course of the coronavirus pandemic....
A recent survey of white-tailed deer in the Northeast and Midwest found that 40% of them had antibodies against SARS-CoV-2. Now veterinarians at Pennsylvania State University have found active SARS-CoV-2 infections in at least 30% of deer tested across Iowa during 2020. Their study, published online last week, suggests that white-tailed deer could become what's known as a reservoir for SARS-CoV-2. That is, the animals could carry the virus indefinitely and spread it back to humans periodically.
If that's the case, it would essentially dash any hopes of eliminating or eradicating the virus in the U.S. — and therefore from the world — says veterinary virologist Suresh Kuchipudi at Penn State, who co-led the study."

An article I read last week
An article I read last week said some possibilities of human to deer transmission.
One was chewing tobacco; the hunter spits it out, the deer later licks it.
Another is people who feed deer in their back yards, deer licks...breathing on them, perhaps? Don't know why anyone would consider doing this, (no gardens, perhaps?), but some people are....not so bright.
"If the virus were to become endemic in wild animals like deer, it could evolve over time to become more virulent and then infect people with a new strain capable of evading the current crop of vaccines."

Dunno 'bout the local deer -
Dunno 'bout the local deer - black-tails - , but a guy just down the road, three houses away, - libertarian/Trumper/antivaxer - went to Cancun with his wife, then came back and attended a road committee meeting here. He is now dead from COVID and half of the meeting attendees are ill, 2 in the hospital.
Who needs the deer?
