So Much Freaking SNOW !

Ventura Mountains ~ San Bernardino Mountains and The Grapevine

I remember driving thru Tejon pass on I-5 many decades ago, was a raging thunderstorm leaving LA and didn't take long to become snow.  I've never seen snowflakes like that before, they were kind of shaped like Fritos, only many times larger (like over 6" long).  They'd closed the southbound lanes, but we were trapped in the northbound lanes, as 4 lanes of traffic froze, and got buried!  They opened up the southbound lane for north bound traffic, and after a few hours, finally got out of it.  Eventually made it to Bakersfield (alternator went bad during this time).  Was going to try to get into the Dead's NYE shows in SF, but spent our wad on the car repairs, so continued on to Oregon (where the snow / ice resumed).
