Snow

Forums:

Rained all morning, turned to snow at noon. 'Bout an inch on the car so far - still snowing heavily.

Hotest October on record followed by early November snow.

Right now in central Vermont @ 7:35 pm: 70 degrees

The windows are open, there's a warm breeze from the south, and it's awesome. It's also unheard of.

I know deep in my heart that we're going to pay dearly for this.

Whoa! Surfdead what is your elevation?

I was researching winter tires just yesterday.

Nokians are really the best winter tires you can buy. Blizzak a decent second

if you absolutely must not miss the show; consider those

talking about AWD cars, here. YMMV

Had the first snow of the year last week. It's gone now.

We has a mix of rain and snow, some of it big gloppy flakes. Didn't stick, just wet. It was an exciting surprise!

Cool and thanks for the responses !

BSS, thanks for the recommendations... I have Nokian summer tires on right now and have liked them... only have about 3K miles left on them due to all the touring I did around California and Oregon last year.

Looking at their Hakkepillita (sp?) R5s for my 2006 XC70 AWD wagon, fondly known as "The Mystery Machine".

Blame it Fukishima.

Cooper Weathermaster are also a fine snow tire. I don't have a preference between those and the Nokian or Blizzaks.

No snow in ct yet.

7am 65 degrees having coffee and sativa on the deck in shorts and a tshirt. Supposed to be near 70 next weekend too.

WTF I'll take it

I'm at 750 feet

I don't have snow tires, because I don't drive in snow that often. I need the chains to get up and down this hill I live on, but after that the regular Coopers keep me on the road.

58 tomorrow, which is tonight's forecast low.

Trees are simultaneously shedding typical fall leaves and growing green ones.

80 degrees in my corner of dirty jersey

november high summer is frankly eerie

It's kinda rainy and 49 degrees where I'm at. The way fall's supposed to be.

now you're just bragging !

We've gotten a lot of rain in November - where do I look for the amounts?

judit, I use weatherunderground.com for local conditions. They have a network of volunteers who have weather stations in their yards, so you can usually get really close to a specific area.

Here's a link to the page for downtown Eugene.

https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KOREUGEN321

It looks like that station has had 4.34 inches of rain so far in November. Scroll down the pages for stats; you can change them to daily, weekly, or monthly. And you can change the location by clicking on points on the map at the top of the page.

Here's the NWS version...  menu on upper left (turn warning on / off, what weather details you want shown, etc).   Then can zoom in, hover mouse over stations, see info, or click, get details.

https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/map/?&zoom=5&scroll_zoom=false&center=40,-97&bo...

Thanks very much for new tools - I do use weatherunderground and noaa but hadn't found the spots on them that show accumulated rainfall. It's easier on the computer, I've usually used my phone for weatherunderground. NOAA as a lot to look at.

The weatherunderground station closest to my house says 4.34 inches in November. (No wonder the skylight began to leak).

Stay safe, everyone.

Corvallis has gotten 0.82" of rain in the last 6 hours

Updated; Corvallis got 0.74" in 3 hours, 1.26" in 6 hours, but 1.74 for the day!

> now you're just bragging !

42 degrees at noontime and we've had about a half inch of rain so far today. It's supposed to turn to snow later today.

Ha Ha:  4" and 10" on the way.  All melts next week, YEAH!!!

BTW:  Agree, only Nokian Hakkapelita.  Now 10, was on 9.  Only snow tire that grabs road.  I prefer studded, but unstudded ok too in other areas.  I' am 7k ft in the mountains.  Been using since Hakka 1.  Still alive to write about 'snow tires'.

Thanks Andy!   Take good care on those high elevation roads.

Buffalo getting 4 to 6 feet of snow, Bills game moved to Detroit.

It's a chilly 56 degrees here, brrrr

14 Hays Kansas

2 wind chill

i am not a fan of this shit can't wait till it's in my rear view windowl

19 in Corvallis Oregonia at 5 AM

38 where I'm at this morning; might hit 50 today. I love this weather.

Odd - it never got below 26 here 500 feet above Corvallis.

Ah, the old high pressure inversion thingy...    where it's 40 up in the hills, and 20s in the valley.  Then theres the bald hill effect, with the strong pressure gradients giving us offshore winds, so things are better mixed near the passes in the coast range / cascades, at the surface, breaking up that inversion.

Low here was 21 this morning, it's 28 now.

I think we made it down to 18.

But that inversion is strong tonight...     In Corvallis at 10pm, the airport (246') is 24, while the agmet station on the hill (780') is 35.

Lots of 24 -25s in the Eugene area, but Trout Mt at 2268' is 41

Grants Pass is 30, but up the mountain at Sexton Summit its 41

Snowing big big big flakes in Eugene. Glad my Subaru will take me home from the doctors appointment I'm at.

We've got rain and/or snow headed my way this evening. I have a doctor's appointment down the hill tomorrow, so rain would suit me better, but any precipitation will be welcomed.

Snow showers on and off all day - no real accumulation.

Up to 70ish today on the Gulf Coast but a large ongoing snow job up in Montgomery.

No snow n Portland, boo!

My new tires get installed next week for my Phil Warfield road trip!

LOL Just took a walk in a Portland snow "storm" but it's not sticking...

No snow here, just drizzling for the last few days, so we have some humidity for a change.

well your area definitely needs the humidity!

very unusual for Portland to get snow this early

Epic storm they said:  Rained heavy last 6 hours.  Now, wet heavy cement.  Oh boy; spring skiing here we come.

A visitor with big paw last evening...

3_60.jpg

No snow yet, but we've gotten almost 1.5 inches of badly needed rain in the last 24 hours.

Last night weather forecast 6-inches, got 2-feet.  This morning:  Where is my car...

Let's go BBQ today, OK...

1-1/2 hours to clear deck.  2-hours to clear out car.  Can't lift my arms.  Thank you 28-year old Honda snowblower.

Raining in SLC now, but snow on and off for the next 3 days. Been a helluva good winter up at the resorts. Looks like we may have water in the rivers next year !?!?!?

We actually got enough snow to stick on the ground last night. Huge flakes. Of course it is all gone today.

Wow, Andy!
