Not complaining. I just think it's interesting that the GD often took it slow. I was just wondering if there's a concensus on the Slowest Story Ever Told.
Slow Grateful Dead was nothing like slow contemporary Bobby. Jerry was the master of the slow rhythm, a love that he got from listening to gospel music. Sandy Rothman made me a DAT of a bunch of the old gospel songs that he and Jerry used to listen to (a few of the songs came from Jerry's collection) when he was living with Jerry back in '87. Some of that stuff was so slow it barely moves, but the power in it is incredible. The secret is to find a way to make a slow rhythm still have energy, something that Bob is completely unable to do.

It seems the same people who yowl about the slower tempos are also the ones who trumpet the glories of "reinterpreting" the music.
