Of course heard of Sless, Sears, Molo, Barraco though never heard of Skene before. That is how we find out about new artists.
Went to her facebook page and saw a couple of solo videos and one video with a Jason Crosby band though you could not really see or hear it very well. Checked and she is not on archive.
Anyone have more video or audio links for shows of hers?
^^^ thx for the advance info, Walstib... I think Mookie's birthday is right around that time
any photos, or a partial setlist, from last night's Sless & Friends show in the Grate Room? I imagine it was far from a sellout, as Phil was playing for free in the bar and that place was packed.
Listening last night had a response to Katie Skene's guitar similar to my response to Warren Haynes's. Their sounds are not the same, but at least for the songs I heard last night, her guitar sounded the same, like a Wawa sound, from song to song. It wasn't interesting, all being the same. Same reaction I have to Warren's, it's all the same, not interesting.
thx to Matanaska for posting Blaise's photos of the setlist for those of us who do not frequent FB
just watched Bob Minkin's 22-minute FB video of a couple songs from last night's show... made me wish I was there last night... I kinda agree with Judit's take on Katie's guitar sound, but it's unfair to base that opinion on just a brief sampling... I did notice that, on the first song in that video (Had to Cry Today), when Katie was singing she often stopped playing the guitar completely... in the second song, her guitar playing was indeed very repetitive with that WaWa sound, as Judit noted... but, since this was the first real gig for this combo it was pretty engaging and I'm sure those who were there do not regret attending
I thought I caught a glimpse of Budboy at one point in the video, so hopefully a recording will appear on the LMA in fairly short order
wondering if there might be a stream of tonight's Felton show?
I didn't go into the show expecting Katie Skeen to play more than just a rudimentary guitar, so I was OK with that (and between Sless and Barraco, there are no shortage of quality leads).
I did expect her to bring some youthful vocals and a fresh take on these old songs we love, which she did... and don't get me wrong, I love the old croakers like Phil and Nelson, but it was a nice change to have a young female up there.
so other than the fact that she drinks Budlight, I think she's a good fit and I hope this configuration continues to play together.
on a side note, moldy Don Q's lived up to it's name last... all the rain has really brought out the dank in the old place (thank god it was not packed).
i thought saturday's show totally rocked beyond my expectations. Katie-that girl can really play and sing. she really harmonized nicely with Barraco, who i also enjoy. missed you Gary, there was some top notch zoners at the gig.
any photos, or a setlist, from last night's Felton show?
bummed that I couldn't be there... I most likely would have attended both of these shows had I not committed to doing a 2-week house-sit before the shows were announced
I DO hope to make it down for the Feb. 11-12 Leftover Nelson gigs, and the Feb. 25th Warfield show... also ready to pull the trigger on Alaska in mid-March as soon as it's confirmed that David will be there

I don't work the next day, so that's a possibility.
It will be a game-time decision though, and also as long as Felton hasn't washed into the sea by this weekend.
