Skiers vs Snowboarders 1985

Some says she is, some says she ain't.

Here's the thing, snowboarding is one of the most beautiful things human beings have figured out how to do...I've been skiing since I was 3, I remember my first run vividly, I was on the steel skis, my parents left me, or at least had me believing they had left me to figure it out for myself and I did, it was like an epiphany.  Anyways, my friends had a snowboard they let me use in their front yard, I was intrigued, then at Lake Tahoe I remember "figuring it out", you're always making a turn...you're either on one edge or the other.

I've snowboarded from the early 90's, lots of backcountry with a beacon, probe & shovel, it's a treasure to be born at the right moment in the timeline of humanity to surf the planet earth.

There are "backcountry communities" throughout the western states & provinces where people cut fresh powder all season, if you get a chance, cut a fresh line on a slope with a snowboard.

one of the things I've yet to discuss on this message board was pioneering the sport of dirtboarding, it never quite got off the ground, it was a very painful sport, but when you weren't thrashing yourself, it was epic!  You could go back up the dirt road afterwards and see the tracks you carved.

Have never tried it, so not going to knock it ... but I suspect it'd fall in somewhere in line as such (at least in terms of "freedom" you alluded to be able to cut a fresh line):

Semi-wet powder > Champaign Powder > Wet Powder > Corn > Groomed > Sand >= Dirt-boarding

But more importantly, did you notice the "arguments" that were made in opposition to snowboarding AND how confident they all seemed to be in presenting their "case"?

Dirtboarding is an incredibly painful sport, if the wheels hit a rock the board comes to a complete stop and you go flying like 10 feet and land on dirt and sometimes gravel, the only way to slow down is to "slide" the back wheels, when you're not injuring yourself it's a beautiful experience.

Snowboarders are a scourge on the ski scene. Baggy pants, packing heat, no day-glo whatsoever. They should be banned on all ski slopes along with Bud Light.

Please add Starter Cowboy jackets to the list to be banned.
