Singles Scene...

Forums:

It's been a long time since I've been single (well, I've been single for almost 2 years - dating here and there).. Dating sure is a lot different in your 40s than 20s!!! It's amazing what you'll find online (and I don't mean amazing in a good way!!)..

If you're single, where do you meet new folks? I live in a small rural area where everyone is coupled up.. Most of the guys I've met are online cause it's not easy to meet anyone around here.. Oh and want to find someone into the same music scene, even slimmer pickins'..

Just throwing some convo out there on this beautiful 4/20 afternoon~

My sister is recently single and she said match.com is good.

Maybe try volunteering for organizations and/or events you like.

This is a well-kept secret, but I have a Siberian 0012_3.JPGHüsky who(m) likes to go out in public and meet new people. He is a Cute Doggie. He's the one with the Blue harness. The other one is his girlfriend from Musher-training.

Women of all types approach the animal and want to pet H.I.M. & scratch his fuzzy ears. They could not even pick me out of a police lineup; only interested in the Hound. However, I occasionally get a phone #.

If I call, they are amenable to taking the  Dog for a play-date, while I wait at the Library or Museum.

So get yourself a Cute Doggie and you'll meet all sorts of new people smiley

Be ready to go on a ton of dates.  If you can be patient there's a good chance you'll meet a nice dude.  It can be a tiring process but if you have faith there will be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Online sites are hysterical - I've had more disastrous dates than successful ones through online.. also have had more dick pics in my inbox than I care to see lol!

recently poked into my pof account and had emails such as:

"Dammit woman!" - umm excuse me??

"I would love to spoil you and let you have all of my money. You are that beautiful!" - you best have a lot of money then, weirdo!

"Wow! Just wow!" - umm is that good or bad??

"I'm looking for someone to marry. You are really beautiful!" - yeah, no, creep.. besides I'll never get married again lol!

^^its like they've never spoken to a woman before!! It is pretty comical though!

Volunteering is a good one and I plan to at the local music venue this summer but I'm super self conscious and think no one would want to talk to me or want me to talk to them.. yeah I know I'm a mess!!!

I'm enjoying dating myself for now. yes

And yeah I do just need to get a dog! They're loyal no matter what lol!

Get a record player. Go to the record store. Talk to a dude about records.

Saturday is record store day. Dudes lined up out the door and around the block. Lots of time to talk.

I think it's great that you are at least making an attempt to meet people online, and even going out for dates. Your odds of meeting someone you like are greater than if you just stayed home and read the works of Ionesco.

Yes, the Doggy is loyal and likes going hiking, biking, swimming & outdoor stuff. But I can't take H.I.M. to nice restaurants.

However, he doesn't get jealous if I pet other Dogs.  Actually, he would like to have another Dog around.

Stu, please post a photo of your dog biking.

Keep in mind that most men are stupid when it comes to relating to women and understanding them.

It really takes time and a little luck and most likely will happen when you least expect it. Don't sell yourself short. Also you being in a rural area you may need to expand your radius a bit.

Those minute dating events might be an idea.

I tried speed dating...didnt like it....waiting for lsd dating....

He does not actually pedal. He pulls the bike or 'gig' or anything w/ wheels. I started H.I.M. as a youth hauling shopping carts full of dog food bags around Petco.

There's his K-Mart bike with 'Cycleash' attachment. I've since modded it extensively (took off the rusty reflector over rear tire).

Looks good Stu. He seems like a smart, nice pupo.

Scarlet, check with Coolchick. I bet she has some tips for you.

Caryn, you are a wonderful and caring woman, very pretty...inside and out :) I say enjoy your time with yourself now and the perfect match will happen in good time...you have been thru So much and deserve happiness in all areas of your life. Hey, I wasn't looking and boom...it just happened !!  Bob makes me laugh everyday and is an awesome match for me that I never, ever thought would happen. Then when I got sick he was there for me 100% and he even surprised himself !

Try to go see as much music as you can ( that is when you glow the brightest, I have been witness to this  personallywink) and you will meet a like minded lover of our music maybe. I feel this is the key to happiness for us, we Breathe, Live and Love Music and the sparks fly when we are together and the music is just right. I enjoy going to shows myself also for "me" time and meeting/socializing with others. It will happen for you, I am old fashioned and those dating match things make me nervous. I know Bob is from here originally, but I met him in person at Levon/Phil in Philly...not knowing who he was until the ECZJ in Balti !!!

Hey, maybe we should revisit the 8x10 and have another zoner jam ?  Although there will never, ever be another night like that for me again...it was a wonderful nite and Schnee and Huck did an awesome job ((( Forever memories ))).

There is nothing worse than Nerdy Hipsters getting all Hard-On-Ey over Vinyl records.  Worst & most Inconvenient Recorded Music Medium Ever (well maybe not as bad as 8-track).  It Went Away in the 80's for Many Good Reasons, including the Sound is Distorted, you Destroy the Medium Every Time you Play It, it's Limited to 25 Minutes a Side, and Good Luck Tiptoe-ing Around the Room while the Record is Playing.  Also, whenever you move, you have the Added pleasure of moving many many very heavy crates.

Actually the Dog has been quite the social catalyst for me. When you are running around with a friendly, well-cared for Pup, people who normally wouldn't bother talking to you come up and start conversations. Not just ladies, but all sorts of Hu-persons from little kids to old dudes with canes.

It helps that he's a cutie, well-groomed and doesn't drool. Also his voracious desire for exercise has me walking, swimming & biking all the time, so I keep fit. In turn, people I meet while outdoors on the trail are more my type, compared to those who just stay inside playing video games.

Starting to get warm here, so we'll be transitioning from Bikes to swimming. Already we're doing dusk rides (when it cools down) and today we went only 3 miles compared to 6-8 in Winter.

D Stu,

Just call Scarlet. You can start with "you need to know I have a dog."

Is autism contagious? Asking for a friend.

^ hey look--an asshole disguised as a vinyl dork.

Great post Bob.

yesses, i haz teh autistics, and i got it from my friend.

Stop by TXR.  A lot of good folk on Marin.

I did the Match.com thing for three months. Some of the most awful dates I've ever experienced. BUT, just when I was about to end the three month torture, I found the woman I was meant to be with. It takes time, and patience, but if you keep at it you'll find someone. The thing I tried to stick with was to start with coffee. If there's a connection, go further. If not, be honest and let them know that and move on.

Asking disco stu for relationship advice is similar to calling an arsonist to put out a fire.

Scarlet, Not really looking for a date, but I'm going to Roanoke often these days for work, lets get a beer sometime.

I was looking for someone to attend the GD Movie last night.

Stu is single? Mind blowing

Dogs can definitely be dude magnets!

My best advice is to get out in the world and do the things you love to do, or take a class on something you're interested in learning about. Join community organizations that have meetings and paticipate...but it's gotta be stuff you love, because then guys who love the same stuff will be in your same airspace!  Becoming a regular at a hangout-style coffee shop is good too...

I met my guy in 2004 after 4 years of being single. I was living on an island. In year 4, I decided to use my vacation time to go to see bands I love and to go to Oregon Country Fair -- all solo trips. Camping next door to me at OCF was my future husband.  We went on a NoCal music road trip a couple weeks later w/ another OCF friend, and have been together ever since, for better and worse.

May the 4 winds blow you towards a cool date!

Another thoughtful thread ruined by this dog weirdo.

I enjoyed the recent Family Guy episode where Quagmire tried Tinder.  He was shocked that he didn't have to ply them with Dinner & Small Talk about Poetry & Philosophy:  "They just show up at my house & we Bang?  Giggity!!!!!"

I love that these guys were out ice fishing on Valentine's Day (bet that's a detail you never noticed):

Need to start a dating thread...Deadheadmatch.com

Meet for dates at shows you both like and be LSD friendly is this to much to ask?

BuckyBadger is "on the prowl" over in Personals.  Better not have any Italian ancestry tho . . . .

I tried OK Cupid back in 2005.  When the woman I'd hooked up with finally said to me "I prayed to Jesus and He brought you to me" I Quickly Pulled the Plug on my Profile . . .

>>>>>>> Is autism contagious?

Well, you've got me, I'm an Engineer, and you've got Disco Stu, whose Father was an Engineer, so it's certainly Genetic.

Lyn told me she is now all OCD just like me about the kitchen trash can (ie rinsing stuff off before discarding, putting food scraps in a sealed bag, etc, so as to prevent bad smells/garbage water/etc) after living with me for 3 - 4 years so yeah probably some elements are contagious . . .
