Silicon Valley chickens

Good day to be a one percenter chicken. Fortunate cluckers.

There's nothin like eggs right off the lawn.

Our chickens don't know how good they got it.

There was a period about 4 years ago where a bunch of neighbors had chickens and one had a rooster. Pretty soon thereafter we had a coyote problem.

Mountain lions should help take care of the coyotes.

The two-bed, one-bath, 848-square-foot house at 1062 Plymouth Street in Sunnyvale wasn’t even on the market for the length of a long weekend before a buyer dropped $2 million in cash for it—possibly breaking a Sunnyvale record in the process.

According to realtor Doug Larson, it only took two days for the circa 1953 home to find a buyer. The humble home, a one-story ranch-style, was only asking $1.45 million to begin with.

DOH!

Do they already have rats in Silicone Valley or is it just a matter of time?

no rats or mice they were all killed in silicone breast implant animal testing

There's a rat in da valley, what I'ma gonna do?

I assumed this was about minor league baseball.

Carry on.

We have rats in Berkeley, but you already know that, Judit.

We have 5 hens and they all lay different looking eggs.  We even have one of those "Easter egg" chickens, Amanda, and she's a real sweetie.

I have seriously mixed feelings about having chickens.  I was the only one of four family members who voted "No" about getting chickens, as I seem to be the one who already does the dirty work for the cats that I didn't want to own.  Plus, I feel personally responsible for any living things whom we host (yes, even those tiny fishes and shrimp in that aquarium).

We got them as chicks and two of the more exotic ones ended up being roosters (some breeds cannot be reliably sexed).  Interestingly, they were the favorite chickens (probably because they were the most rambunctious).  They are both living in a rooster sanctuary near Mt. Diablo.  Raised them all under a heat lamp in one of our bathtubs and spent weeks building a large coop/nesting boxes/chicken run shack.  These chickens have completely scratched just about everything smaller than a shrub out of the ground and we have a lot of raw Earth for a yard - post-Apocalypse looking.  And lots of chicken shit everywhere.

So, now we're finishing up a fencing/gate system to cut our yard in half in hopes that we can rehabilitate some parts.

Still, it is super nice to have fresh, firm eggs every morning and even a few dinners.  And, yes, we do give eggs away to family and friends.

Chickens are a trip.  Definitely not mammals, but still very social in their own ways.
