From what I've gathered about the Boomers from a vast generalization POV.
1. They were raised by a previous generation that had limited parenting skills. There was alcoholism, repressed emotions, detached and broken relationships, child rearing through physical fear and the like. These were not good households for children.
2. They came to age in a period of unfettered growth, accumulating wealth that was way beyond their parents and in many cases, far above their personal skill level.
3. This generational jump (I'm way better than my parents) was combined with Reagan idealogy of what mine is mine and you can go fuck yourself. I'm winning and you're not. Trickle down that mutherfucker. America is about being #1 and if you're not #1, you're a fool or faggot (their word, not mine).
4. As the Boomers aged, they've looked around at their inflated housing assets and stock holdings and are absolutely convinced people should listen to them, because they just know better.
5. While their wealth has grown, the Boomers are increasingly on the outside bubble of technology and youth culture, which is moving at a pace they can't comprehend in the least. It has caused resentment and much anger among their tribe. How can they have all this stuff but not matter anymore? You mean money can't buy relevance?
6. Throw in Facebook where they all get together and complain en masse about everything not being as great as it once was, even though they are responsible for much of the degradation.
Maybe lead and asbestos poisoning as well. That couldn't have helped these poor chaps.
