Shows are back!

Forums:

Got my first Covid shot yesterday and the second one scheduled for next month, so I went onto Jambase for the first time in ages.   Was surprised by the number of shows listed.   Got tickets for Santana at the local shed in June and Los Lobos later this year.   Already have RATM, Primus, Hall and Oates, and Tanya Tucker on the calendar for dates that were rescheduled from last year.

Also still have tickets for a three night Phish run at the Gorge in July, but haven't heard if the band is going forward with summer tour yet.   Its getting down there so I suspect we will hear something soon.

A lot of those dates are just postponements from last year and unlikely to happen. Phish for instance, won't be playing. Last reliable rumor I heard is that they may start at Dick's and announce shows in the Southeast for the fall. take it with the usual grain of salt.....

There's definitely smaller shows to be seen/attended.  I've been to a few over the last couple months and digging the vibe of a return to normal drug band concert activities.

Planet Bluegrass is doing social distanced outdoor shows in Lyons CO. All I know is that they sold tix in "corrals" of 4. The series sold out immediately. I'm not mentally ready yet.

Yeah, these small shows are a nice way to ease back in, I believe the big venues will be pushed to the fall. We'll see!

Agreed ^

certainly going to be very choosy when it comes to what risks I'm willing to take and for what bands. JRAD, RRE, and Billy Strings are probably the only ones that will tempt me to get my feet  wet.

while standing in line for my second shot today, old woman in front of me tells the gate keepers that she was sick 11 days ago and tested positive for Covid -  and she just arrived from Texas to get the vaccine. Point being there's a whole lot of stupid and illness still circulating.

This place in New Haven has a pretty good thing going. 5,000 seat tennis stadium. Selling very limited seating,  looks like 20 or so people per section. Got tickets for Mule. JRAD blew up their sellers website on the pre-sale Wednesday.  They're looking for a new distributor for that one. Looking forward to a road trip and a little rock n roll.

If you were 4 days short of 94% immunity, and a very good band was playing outdoors, very close to your house, and you knew folks were probably not wearing masks, would you go?

I wouldn't go into the area, Mark. Outdoors is good, but the people who aren't wearing masks really aren't wearing masks and 94% immunity really means that you're not going to get as sick if you get Covid, right? Can you stand outside the perimeter away from people?

Who's playing?

Yes, I would, wear a mask yourself to be safe. You are somewhere north of what, 86% and Bay Area COVID rates are very low.

assume at least half of those unmasked folks probably won't be coherent/respectful/aware enough to keep their distance to begin with (...because if they were they'd be wearing masks...) I'd probably listen from the lot.

and they'd better stay far away from the musicians!

I need some King Crimson ASAP!

Probably not.  Might watch from afar, but trying to be careful and not fuck this up (knock on wood).   Holding out on scheduling anything until 14 days after my second dose.   Then all bets are off and like Tony Montana, the world is yours.

Even then, would still wear masks where socially appropriate.   The evidence is mounting that once you are fully vaccinated, you are much less likely to spread it to others, but will still follow the recommended guidelines.

Got there at set break.  I was literally the only one with a mask. I waited in my car till the second set began.

It was weird. There were these humans playing music right there in front of me. What a concept.

Band was Edge Of The West, Judit.  Jim Lewin is a very good guitar player and everybody loves Billy on bass.  And any band with a pedal steel is a good band.

People were hanging in clusters but on the "dance floor"  there was good social distancing.   I hugged the host and a couple ladies that I knew. But otherwise I danced(and I use that term loosely when referring to myself) at least 10 feet away from anyone.  They played an hour fortyfive set, mostly country tunes.  I'm glad I went.  They were going to play more, but I had to get home.   Lots going on right now.

I only knew 5 people well enough to know their names and 2 of them were in the band. Got a little chilly, but I had the warmest face there....

Your big smile, behind your mask. Sounds like you had a good time and made it work for you, Mark.

Last live music was JGB in Arcata Feb 28th, 2020.

Edge of the West is a great band!

what local shed is Santana playing ...???

The Clark County Amphitheater across the river in Ridgefield WA.   They keep changing the official name of the shed every couple years based on the current corporate sponsors.  Lawn tix are about $35 plus fees.

Wolf Brothers 2/29/2020>>>>>Hot Fuckin Tuna 6/4/2021

Longest lapse in live tunes since I was 13

I still don't believe we're out of the woods yet.

Hopefully, the vaccines will prove effective against the existing and emerging variants, but it's clear the storm could regain strength akin to a hurricane that went back out over the sea after being weakened by landfall.

The developments in Brazil are very troubling.  Apparently, British Columbia has a relatively high number of emerging p1 cases

I agree with this, but hopefully these "distanced" outside shows & events with limited capacity will not be a serious danger, at least to those vaccinated, and I live in a region where I believe most have or will get the shots.

At least that's my hope.

For a while now a few of my closest friends have been meeting a couple times a month at a restaurant with a large patio, but I've stayed away. It's sucked as I miss my friends, but now that I've been double-dosed with the Pfizer I joined them a couple of weeks ago, and again the other day.

It was awesome to be back hanging & joking with my pals again, and at one point I looked around and realized the patio was full, with almost no one wearing masks because everyone was eating & drinking.

Next up, while I have no shows on my radar I am going to a Giants game in a couple of weeks.

I'm thinking, "Vaccine, don't fail me now!"

We'll see.

I will feel comfortable attending larger venues when they implement this system. Would like to see it for all airline travel also. Can even reduce the spread of Wookie flu?!

>Businesses and venues can scan and validate your pass to ensure you meet any COVID-19 vaccination or testing requirements for entry. Along with your Pass, you'll be asked to show a photo ID that shows your name and birth date to verify that the Pass belongs to you. Adults may hold passes for accompanying minors.

Once you and your party enter an establishment, you will still be asked to follow State and CDC guidance regarding social distancing, face coverings and hand hygiene.

Participation in Excelsior Pass is voluntary. New Yorkers can always show alternate proof of vaccination or testing, like another mobile application or paper form, directly at a business or venue.

>>>Can even reduce the spread of Wookie flu?!

Sorry, but Pfizer and Moderna got nothing on the Wookie flu.  That shit is hard core.

look'n strong

true, the vaccine won't solve that Wookiee flu transmission, however with fewer Wookiees present combined with  basic Covid transmission prevention measures, the rates of Wookie flu transmission should be greatly reduced.

stoked

for sure Nancy

thanks

>>>No hugging<<<

Thank goodness.

As an extraordinarily tall person, hugging you people has always been a bit of a clumsy challenge.

In the near future I look forward to many waves from afar.

Intra-Pod hugs still permitted, choose wisely.
