Should surfing be California's official state sport?

Forums:

it might not be such an easy decision after all...

It makes sense,  compared to Iowa or North Dakota.

No.  It wasn’t invented here.  Skateboarding was though.

Skateboarding

or

"Work" smuggling to the EC.

Of course it already is, but how would the average surfer/person benefit from making it official?

They wouldn't.

I don't think it's about benefiting existing participants in the sport...

I always assumed that stuff like that was more of a marketing tool and tourism angle - which I could see it benefiting the state in that way.

No because the coastal elites don't surf.

Skateboarding is in every corner of California.

I thought that's who does surf - folks who live near the beach and have time to sit around in the ocean.

looking at work Santa Cruz right now. gutter cleaning. liquor warehouse, golf course janitor. now we need an apartment.

Good luck - SC is the most expensive anywhere except maybe NY and SF.

im not looking to own a house like you, elitist. just 500 sqaure feet for three of us. $1500 a month. steps from the beach.

and i already own three skateboards

Elitist? I can't afford 1500/month. I scrape to pay 1268 PITI for a 1200 sq. ft. "manufactured home" on 5 acres, bought in 1984 when such was still affordable.

Gotta be completely honest that I never knew that states had an official sport.

California,  Oregon and Washington do not have official State  Dogs.

However,  two of those states have official Marine Mammals.

Rodeo seems to be the most popular official state sport.  In Colorado it's "Pack Burro Racing".

Jerseyland doesn't have one yet.  I think it should be Pizza.

if you can find a pad in sc for $1500, that's a steal.

i will be there next weekend to see t-daughter graduate.

I'm not sure it's a sport.

The again, if golf is, why not?

Hawaii  already did it...

Check the link above (11:54 AM)

But there are three Rodeo states,  I don't think it would be a problem to have at least four Surfi states.

This is good for skateboarding.

Why the hell do we need an "official" state sport?

Ugh.

so fun.
