Shit Hole Country

How fast it is turning

Costa Rica is looking better and better.

It just keeps getting worse. I try to ignore it. The recent supreme court decisions just about put the nail in the coffin and I don't see any organized resistance or plan to counter what's happening.

We have friends that are talking to lawyers about moving to France and a brother who is building fall out shelters in the woods of VT.

How are other folks coping?

Anyone order their Alligator Alcatraz merch yet?

>>>How are other folks coping?

Most likely through the classic coping mechanisms:  denial, alcohol and weed.

I'm not paying as much attention to the news as I did during Trump's first term. I still read headlines mostly, but no deep dives. It just doesn't pay.

The Supremes bowing is what concerns me the most. When the rule of law doesn't mean anything, there's no checks and balances. Full speed ahead to chaos.

Reading a new collection of essays from Rebecca Solnit called "No Straight Road Takes You There."  She writes taking the long view, a "tortoise at the mayfly party" as she puts it.  Her previous work was "Not Too Late" about climate change. Both worth reading.

It's hard to quit when you think about this guy.

Think of the foreign countries you may have been to in the past where they had soldiers with armored vehicles and automatic weapons patrolling the streets

Now ask yourself would you want to live there?

> soldiers with armored vehicles and automatic weapons patrolling the streets

The only time I've had that experience was in Iran during the summer of 1978. I'd like to think that'll be a one and done for me.

I don't get the myopic impartiality of the SCOTUS decisions. Sure, if Reps are in power forever they work, but a Den POTUS would have all those wonderful things they handed Trump. Maybe the next move is to ensure that they stay in power forever???

I'm afraid that is the plan. We say it could never happen here but look how far we've come normalizing things that we never dreamed of happening

Red states and Trump/Rhino voters need to suffer...

even then I not sure they will stop voting for lawmakers who pass legislation that hurts them

^ That throws my heart into chaos and pain.

She is an Iranian Christian. If she gets deported she will be executed so she will probably just stay in the privatized detention center  that bribes Trump on the side for the next four years.

And this is pretty much the perfect storm of shit hole know nothing Republicans.

Grok Hole Country

I thought grok was a football player

Here a grok, there a grok, everywhere a grok grok

(understand (something) intuitively or by empathy) - like really get it, beyond and deeper than get it.

hi plan is to sell his house and take his 82 yr old parents back to the Provence to finish out their days. elderly care is much more affordable as is everything..

Just got to try make your local community a great place to live notwithstanding everything and just get ready for the mid-terms elections.   But yeah, this is the first time in my life that I am actually a little scared of the government.  My son flew back to New York from Guatamala last night and he was sure to lock his phone before landing and put a warning that the contents contained confidential attorney-client communications.  Thankfully, he didn't have any issues with customs and immigration.

My office is about 200 yards from the ICE facility that is constantly in the news for the rowdy protests at night and I am just waiting for the Marines to show up to go after the graffiti guys and vandals.

Filipino caregivers are what make elder care work here in the Western U.S., as well as all kinds of patient care.

I hope they're safe until they're safely back there.

I'm pretty sure the first time I encountered it was in the Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, and, of course, I grokked it immediately.

I first read/saw/grokked grok in Stranger in a Strange Land way back then and it's been a an important word for me ever since.

>>>I am just waiting for the Marines to show up to go after the graffiti guys and vandals<<<

I know little to nothing about this type of thing, but I was under the impression that unless martial law is invoked the military can only be directly involved in protecting ICE agents, that vandalism/looting/"rioting" must be handled by local police.

Which of course is exactly what MAGA wants so they CAN invoke martial law, which IMO is specifically why they sent in the military in the first place and why ICE is targeting who they're targeting and avoiding gangbanger/obvious criminal types; so that people will be outraged and protest.

Which is why it's so important to demonstrate peacefully and immediately call out/shut down anyone who isn't. Because from the "every accusation is a confession" file, MAGA is or definitely will be encouraging/paying their supporters to start trouble so they can justify taking the next step.

So if you're demonstrating/protesting, keep your eyes open for troublemakers and shut those fuckers down, because they're either idiots, assholes or MAGA motherfuckers, who no matter their motivation are all serving the MAGA machine.

...

my original fear in 2017 was immediate martial law, but he wasn't ready for that. loved being wrong

2025plan is rolling along tho, and that lays out the end of "democracy">>>christian fascist theocracy.

brown folks are the jews of this reich

and the poors are disposable consumers who are bred to, ya know, work to consume and consume more than any work pays.

end of public "education"

so much ineptitude and unabashed greed

no clue how i'm coping, but 9 months into being betrayed, it's less prevalent in my consciousness than it might have been otherwise.

Shit Hole Country sounds like a bluegrass banjo breakdown Earl Scruggs came up with while on a bender.

The relative humidity where I live is 19% right now, and it still feels like a dictatorship.
