Branford was on one earlier this week and had some nice comments about playing with the boys.
I never understood how dismissive of the Dead people could be considering the caliber of musicians they attracted to play with them. Not that their own playing shouldnt be good enough..
Branford's spoke several times about playing with the Dead and was always complimentary. He loved the loose improvisation.
I listened to that Nassau show not too long ago all the way through. The Eyes gets all the attention, but the Bird Song and Estimated were amazing too. I guess he sat in a couple other times but those shows weren't as highly thought of. Not that it was his fault. Wonder if Branford got any royalties from that Spring 90 box set?
I've heard him mention a couple times he got random phone calls from heads on his private number thanking him for the great show and for getting Dark Star in the setlist at Nassau. They'd planned Dark Star at intermission knowing Branford could go off on it. He got a kick out of it.
The Pre-Game with Sam Cutler is also a good listen. He can run long in the tooth, but he's got the stories. Sam quoted Miles Davis as saying "the Grateful Dead were Jazz musicians who play Rock & Roll."

Some things:
- It is so awesome to see Pigpen as such a real all around presence
- I love how they goof around and start over cuz it's for German TV.
- Jerry's guitar strap

We often dismiss what we don't understand.
The Grateful Dead have never been easy to understand.
Long live the Grateful Dead!!!!!!
