Seattle visit

Forums:

I'm heading to Seattle next weekend, any zoner advice, music, food, things to check out?  Llollo already gave me some excellent ideas, thanks!

Are you renting a car?

If so, you might want to head over to the suburb of Renton and check out the Jimi Hendrix gravesite and memorial.   It's pretty cool.

Paul Allen's rock museum at the base of the Space Needle is also a must see for music fans.   Its now combined with his sci-fi museum and is called MoPop (museum of pop culture)

Depending on how much time you have, you can also take a day trip up to Port Townsend via the Edmonds-Kingston Ferry.

Go to Neptune Music and see how many push ups Java Dave can do.

what happened to him?

>>>Go to Neptune Music and see how many push ups Java Dave can do.

lol, perfect.

Blue Moon Tavern in the University District  -- legendary deadhead dive.

Golden Gardens Park - Pretty sure GD played there in the 60s - it has a beach on the Puget Sound.

Soundgarden, north of University of Washington - all these huge tubular chimes that make sounds when the wind blows hard -- and likely the source of the band name.

Wooden Boat Center at the south end of Lake Union -- you can rent a little sailboat or canoe -- but there's always interesting stuff to see there.

Agree about Ken's suggestion for Port Townsend -- you could travel via Bainbridge Island to get there, too. About an hour's drive north once you land on Bainbridge.

I also know of some hot springs in the Olympics, but need to research if the Elwha River springs are still there since the dam was removed.

Cool, thanks for all the info.  Maybe I’ll challenge Java Dave to a push-upathon :-)

Already looks like more great things to do than time to do them.  Arriving Thursday afternoon and leaving Sunday. No car, Uber or public  transport.

We’re in Dayton this weekend for daughters graduation  yes

No public transport? Walking or biking only? Lyft?

Great sushi....we ate here:  http://seattle.japonessa.com/eat/   and here:   https://www.umisakehouse.com/

Both Expensive but good experience just the same and I'd go back to either.

The Sculpture park is killer just north of downtown. Don't miss it.

Rock museum is ok although had fun with the kids being on tv with muppets.    Walking around that whole complex is an interesting take if you've never been: retro fountain, Chihuly museum, needle.   Good afternoon of being a tourist.   We did the whole pikes place with the kids and took a boat ride which was ...oooo kkkk    Still nice to be on the water.

Also, highly recommend going up to Vancouver and to the capilano bridge.   Best experience in a long time.   Go when it opens to beat the rush and if you want something else, then head north and take the tram up grouse mountain.  Seriouooussleeee..check out Capilano.

Stay longer and take the ferry to the San Juan Islands

The locals used to hang out at Gasworks Park back in the day, but no idea what it's like now - could be whitebread or sketchy or anywhere in between by now.

You'll walk through Pike Place Market at some point.  When you do, stop off at Lowell's for a cup of chowder and a Georgetown draft.  Don't go at noon and try to find a seat at the bar on the second floor.  Relax and watch the ferries go by...

Robin Trower playing at the Moore Theater Friday night.

>No public transport? Walking or biking only? Lyft?

I meant we aren’t planning to rent a car.  We will use Uber or public transport or walk.

>>> We will use Uber or public transport or walk.

Or Monorail.....  We walked the entire time and it was great.

Also, There is a seattle underground tour I wanted to do.  Looked kind of cool and worth looking into.    http://www.undergroundtour.com/about/history.html

and

I think a pinball museum as well   https://www.seattlepinballmuseum.com/

If you like craft ice cream and a lot of white people everywhere then you'll love Seattle.

>>>a lot of white people everywhere

True, but there are a lot of Asian folks up in Seattle too.  Not as many as Vancouver BC (that place is a modern living breathing Chinatown), but way more than Portland, which for bigger cities is about as white as the come.

We’re having a great time.  Sunny now and big smile on my face leftover from last night.  After a walk around the Pike market we had dinner at Japanessa and walked to The Moore Theater for Robin Trower.  What a show!  That guy is a master of tone, he played the same guitar all night with Marshall amps and he delivered! They are a sweet trio, catch them if you can.

Ran into Robin Trower at the airport.  I gave him a thumbs up and peace sign.

Sounds great man. Glad you and the wife had a good time. Cool photos as usual.

Meanwhile, we got yet another inch of rain yesterday (at least) and some booming thunder this morning.

Pretty unusual May here.

We had thunder/lightning and big rain yesterday in Eugene.

C > R, thanks of the pictures and comments. I especially love the pics of the gum wall.

Happy travels home.

Good times.  Did japonessa live up to the recommendation?   A little bit more trendy of a place than I usually like to go to but food was delicious.

Zang - yes we got sushi rolls, very tasty.  The thing we noticed is that the wasabi was not a strong as we’re used to.  Usually a little goes a long way, right up your nose.  The Japonessa version had a milder flavor that you didn’t have to be too careful with.

I was just at the arboretum. i recommend it.

The gum wall looks super gross and not worth the time.  It's been years since I've visited Seattle but I recommend you turn up Posse on Broadway.
