Scored a 'New' Smoker...

Forums:

A 'Char - Griller' brand.  Saw it at a garage sale and couldn't resist.  Looks similar to these fotos:

Mine is a bit more rusty;  exterior could use a touch of hi-temp stove paint.

These are your basic low-budget offset firebox Smokers.  The metal's not very thick,  so they don't maintain temperature as well compared to the industrial grade types.  However,  people modify them a bit for better airflow and consistency of temps within the cooking chamber.

There's a cult following of people who modify these things with simple additions.  Some like to add a Stainless steel mesh box to the offset Wood / Coal container;  others line the Meatbox with firebrick.

Zoner Zeke had some photos of his electronically - controlled Smoker w/ digital thermometers and Fans with a Brain - cell to maintain proper temps.

I might add a couple old computer-box fans powered by lawn-mower batteries.  Or better yet,  a 'Habitrail' with Chipmunks to run the Fans.

This fellow has all sorts of Kwazy mods on his 'Char-Griller'.  You have to see the photos to get a grasp.

Love how he has a Gas can near the Fire-Breathing smoker.

Smoke `em if ya got a smoker, Stu!

Thanks Mr. Fark.

I've been doing alright with a few Webers and various splits of Smoking Wood,  but this 'new'  Smoker will be Huge Fun.  Definitely a low-budget Smoker, but built pretty solid w/ good grates.

The BBQ fanatics have done all types of shenanigans with these items.  Do a search for 'Char-Griller Smoker Modifications' and you'll see that people are 'Searching For The Smoke' in many ways.  Hey,  at least they aren't ruining perfectly good Cars laugh

You have no camera?

Thanks MarkD --

I've got a few cameras and chips that go with them.  However,  they all have some issue or another.  My favorite slurps AA batteries like Margaritas;  only 'Procell'  brand gets it through a dozen shots before the amp-hours are gone.

Other ones break down from cold / hot weather,  dropping on the ground,  Dawg chomps.

But anyway,  the photos of other folks'  BBQ setups are nice-looking,  and they have much nicer patios & decks.  My yard is just Trees and wood-chip mulch with some tall grass & Hosta Lilies.

Here is an actual photograph which I snapped:

You can see that it looks rather Murky.  I'm just not that great of a photographer.

Stu, do you know that there is free porn on the internet?

Thank you,

Mr.  Skyjunk.  I'm not 18,  and so not allowed to look at that stuff yet.

However,  feel free to share your photos of naked people smoking Vegetables,  Fish & Meat upon a 'Char-Griller' © Smoker.

I'm certain that the Community would enjoy that,  especially if the Smoker is Customized.

Oh man.. I used to have one of those. I loved it. While my weber is great, that thing could smoke a mean shoulder.

Nice grill and a good find enjoy! But this thread reminds me of something!

Slim in NC if you or your minions see this I want my smoker back!

Tapecat was the master at modifications on that type of smoker. I gave up on that version, and got myself a Weber Smokey Mountain vertical smoker, and as DS pointed out, also got a BBQ Guru thermostat/fan system to keep my temps dialed in. But, I put my time in on the cheap horizontal smoker, and learned a lot about the art of smoked meat.

Thanks for the reminder,  Mr. Zeke re:  'BBQ Guru'.  I had forgotten the brand-name.

I'll have Fun with this El-Cheapo Smoker,  and perhaps construct a better one in the future.

My technique tends toward marinade overnight,  and then the dry-rub an hour or so before Smoking.  That varies with different meat or fish,  but it's all for Fun.
