I got two Bert Jansch releases which were on the UK list- not sure how this store got them, but I don't care. lol
Also, got the Hillbillies from Hell Vol. 666
And, I also bought Melvin Sparks.
My partner, on the other hand, bought a fuckload off the list, including some I wanted like Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, Johnny Thunders, Tim Hardin, and the Van Morrison releases.
Just listened to the Dickey Betts RSD release- it is fantastic!
My one suggestion to the people who run Record Store Day is to provide the participating stores with more than enough cloth tote bags for people to carry their purchases instead of stores using plastic bags- big frown from me on that. Or, yes, people bring their own reusable bag as well.
Nice picks, EB Fox. What were the Bert Jansch titles? Earth Recordings has been doing an amazing job with his catalog (as well as a lot of unreleased stuff).
Tangential, but Drag City is putting out an archival John Renbourn title soon, Live in Tokyo.
I'm hearing a lot of complaints about the poor sound fidelity of many of the RSD releases.
While I appreciate the spirit of RSD, it is clear it is mainly a marketing tool for RSD Inc,, and not really about Indie Record Stores. It's always a busy day, but the RSD tourists with their want lists are a bit much. Many of them don't shop physical stores regularly throughout the year, and will obliviously breeze right by new arrival bins loaded with great titles they can't find in most places in search of the RSD releases that are generally commonplace. It's a bit of a head-scratcher.
Anyhow, hope that those of you who participated enjoy your selections and continue to patronize your independent record stores on the other 364 days of the year.
I'd also like to say welcome back to Ateix. Good to see you made it back.
The two Jansch releases are A Rare Conundrum and Santa Barbara Honeymoon, gold and purple vinyl respectively. Partner picked up LA Turnaround yesterday morning.
Definitely looking forward to the Renbourn release!
Herbal Dave,
It's all about fun for us. As I sit here and type, I am looking at our collection of around 3500 albums and still growing. The only records we buy are from independent stores from the city in which we live, plus we make it a point to visit other indie stores when we travel, which is quite frequent. The only place these albums are going in the future is to our children on both sides when we're no longer on this earth. Whether it's RSD or just another ordinary day, I think it's great local indie stores are being supported no matter the reason behind someone's motives to buy an album. Besides, what's the actual data on your claims?

Just read that Mad Monk on Telegraph just closed. Sucks.
I usually hit the Amoebas and Rasputin in P-Hill. Try and stop in to anything on the road.
Got a picture disc copy of Scream by Siouxsie and the Banshees yesterday as well. Glad I checked that bin before checking out.
