I 1st saw Santana on October 21, 1969 @ The Ludlow Garage, Cincinnati, Ohio.
I went last night to the S.F. Chase Center, with Blaise, & we saw Santana's Supernational Now tour. War opened.
Both War & Santana were great.
They basically played their entire catalogs. What I think I enjoyed the best about their songs, they are all my favorites, was how they jammed straight from one song to the next without any hesitation throughout both performances.
The sound was wonderful. The Chase Center delivers the sound.
The seats were fucking horrible. We were in the rafters, still not a cheap ticket, My fat ass could barely squeeze into the seat & Blaise, who is quite thin, claimed discomfort as well. Maybe the seats on the floor are bigger? Our seats were like Airplane Seats. We watched War & then hung out on the concourse for the intermission. We went back to our seats when Santana came out but after about 20 minutes we got up & stood in a doorway & watched. That was much better.
The crowd & staff were great. No smoking, not even vapes.
Santana's wife, Cindy Blackman Santana was the drummer & of course she was great & his son, Salvador, sang and played keys. His brother, Jorge, may have been on stage as well.
Before the show, we got there early & was able to park on the street, on Terry Francoise, & went to the Mission Rock Resort for a preshow dinner & some drinks. I always love the Mission Rock & the owner came to our table & chatted with us. I amused him with tales of some of my misdeeds there throughout the years. I 1st visited the Mission Rock in 1979 & drank & watched the Oakland Hills Fire in October, 1991. Not from disrespect but there was nothing we could do.
