OAKLAND COLISEUM ARENA - DECEMBER 16, 1992

thanks Mice Elf and China Rider!

and Joy!

Good call on the latter day 12/16/92... an era that doesn't get a lot of love

A fav from a show I was at. Boston Garden, September 18, 1982 (Brent's birthday).

Bobby: This is a little tune in honor of this building.

awesome guys. I especially appreciate the early 80's picks

That's where I would have expected all of them to be from

Richmond, Virginia Coliseum

I was at that one too. My friend at the time defied his parents to go to yet another show so his dad decided to go in a suit to figure out what all the fuss was about. He never found his kid but he found plenty of his friends who when they would run into him would tell him that his dad was there looking for him. Not something that lends itself to a good trip when you are 17.

Yes and one of my favorite Sampson's. There was a love hate relationship with that old building.

That's not Brent's Bday.  But it's mine.smiley

SAENGER PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - SEPTEMBER 9, 1982

> That's not Brent's Bday.  But it's mine.

Well that's weird. Brent's birthday was October 21st, but Bobby introduced Far From Me like this:

On account of it's Brent the keyboard player's birthday, so on this auspicious occasion, we're going to let him sing happy birthday to himself.

And happy birthday to you too, Bluest, even though it's not today.

keep em coming!

Ventura 1982

11/30/80

Feb 7, 1963, Reverend Gary Davis, second set from Gerde's Folk City at 11 West 4th Street NYC.  https://youtu.be/ZNDrLiJl88w

first thaught of that Gaaardenn shoe in 82, that whole tour was riddled with false birthdays and anniversaries, the dome show was Bobby's "5th wedding annivairsaire", he wasnt married at that time but got a nice kiss from a velouptouse blonde, My most mermorible Samson was sunday oct 26th 1980 RCMH , with Billy Cobham sittin in

I'm partial to the peppy versions they played in '76. They played it almost every night that year so there's lots of good choices, here's an early one from Boston...

And of course there's always this one, a personal favorite, as so many songs from this show are...

^^^^BINGO!  That is the most unique version; Jerry's got funky, snakelike riff going in the intro.....

great stuff guys..thanks!

 I especially appreciate the early 80's picks>>>Two from '81 out of China/Rider.  3/9 & 5/4    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSwMJhWvxYI     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7o1auXTLjdM

First thought of that Gaaardenn shoe in 82>>>Saw 1 show there, fine 2nd set, only time I saw Garcia announce the set break.  10/30 was w/Cobham, the 26th does have a unique jam>Samson to open set 3.

12/31/76 is a great show all around, band was flowing all night.

5/16/93

Great 2nd set opener. It takes a lot for me to recommend anything post-Brent, but this whole show sizzles. Perhaps the last really good show I saw the GD play.

Jerry breaks a string during Franklins he was shredding so hard.

7/9/89 was a good one. My only show in 89. The whole show rocked. Giants Stadium was on fire.

^Yes! ...and our little parking lot re-enactment sideshow of The Electric Koolaid Acid Test surely added to the day too!

Riverbend 6/24/85 should be on this list, if not on the top of it!  The boys clearly ate their wheaties during setbreak and they come out and play a killer, super groovin' Aiko then slowly and patiently feel the groove of Samson, uniquely all getting on the same page before bursting into the opening notes! Blazes all the way through.

This Sampson rips -- https://relisten.net/grateful-dead/1985/06/24

Here's a nice post-Jerry version that ropes Bobby into a faster tempo ...

The boys clearly ate their wheaties during set break>>>

On tour Summer '85, they were sprinkled with a fine white powder that was something other than sugar.

Thanks again for all these folks. Great stuff

NedB, I just listened to that 93 version. First time I think I've ever heard a Phil Bass Solo in that song
