Sam Cutler has a good outlook on his mortality

Forums:

Saw this on facebook today.

This is a guy who probably hasn't seen it all, but he's seen as much as just about anyone.

He's a very eloquent writer, and I met him a few times at TxR and he was nothing but charming & kind.

Live long & prosper Sam.

"LIFE:

goes up and down like a whore's drawers. Who's to know what might eventuate? Today I'm happy. Chelsea won their Champion's League game and are through to the quarter finals for the first time in many years. I am also approaching the 'end game(s)' of my life and am now (once again) engaged in serious 'psychic warfare' with two more incidents of cancer.

I am now up to the sixth and seventh 'battle' with this disease and who's to say what will happen ? I place my faith in the medical profession who've assisted me through five battles, now there are two more to deal with. I remain phlegmatic and practical, for all life must eventually transform back into the carbon from whence it came. I'm no different. I accept it ALL with unruffled equanimity. PLEASE don't send me lots of messages saying how sorry you are !! Be glad, learn that life is an absolute lottery and what happens to you is largely dictated by forces beyond your immediate control. Learn to accept what happens with a good grace. With a rueful smile. It's a funny old business, so count the blessing that eventuate and bear the misfortunes with stoic fortitude. Above all don't stress about anything ! Stress is the enemy. Accept it all for what it is, a random series of peculiar events in which one may just be able to bear playing a part.

One love, I'm off to get a coffee and read the newspaper ... it is always amusing to see the 'dominant narrative' that is promulgated by the media in a concerted 'attack' on our collective consciousness. We are told from all quarters to be 'afraid' of China. What nonsense ! Show me the millions of people who have been killed by expansionist hegemonic bombing by China and I'll point to those dear peace-living Americans who have managed to bomb most of the world in order to 'save it' for democracy. A plague, I say, on both their houses. I want to be neither saved nor dominated, by either America or China and whilst they're at it I'd be most grateful if they'd refrain from bombing me. All I want to do is live in peace until I die, thereafter (to tell the honest truth) I'll have nothing to do with any of it.

It's a funny old world, all that remains for me is to finish my book "Friend of the Devil" and then I can finally relax. Onwards to the end."

He was quite gracious, shaking my hand when I greeted him a couple of times during TxR visits.

Quite frankly, he's gone through the wringer so many times, especially over recent years, that  I'm glad (and admittedly incredulous) that he's still doing what he's been doing.

Yes: Long live Sam.

He seems to be a passionate word-smith who enjoys telling old stories and like it is. Go Sam!

Will he go on one last Phish tour before he leaves. Stay healthy!

Easy read with some interesting stories.

> all life must eventually transform back into the carbon from whence it came.

Amen to that, and I'll be shamelessly stealing Cutler's assessment when the need arises.

I read that Cutler book recently.  Yeah, easy reading and interesting stories.   Calling it "my life with the Rolling Stones" is a bit of a misnomer however.   He was only with them for about seven months before being unceremoniously dumped off in California and left holding the bag after the Altamont disaster.

Hope the dude makes a speedy recovery.  I saw him on some recent GD documentary and he looked a bit "weathered."

He was at my wedding....That was something else when he came with a friend who we thought was coming solo.

^I hope that he didn't eat too much cake or drink too much champagne.

Definitely a faux pas.  wink

YCAGWYW Book is  also available as a Books On Tape phone app for $10. Sam narrates his Autobiography quite well too!
