Ryan Adams drops his second double album in a month

Forums:

Damn.

Giving it a listen now.

And there is another album coming to fill out this trilogy.

He has also been doing a number of live rehearsals for his upcoming solo tour on Instagram. Some of the arrangements of older songs are the best I've heard from him.

Good times for the DRA fan.

p.s. for Cam: FLAC is now available.

What's the name of this one?

Romeo and Juliet<<<

Perhaps I should actually listen to the album first to see if it's a "mea culpa" of sorts, but ...

Are his paintings worth anything?

Is it better than the Chris album?

>>>Good times for the DRA fan

Lol, apart from the shame of supporting what practically amounts to an industry pariah who's artistic and personal decent has been so steep it even eclipses that of the declining quality of discourse on this message board

Artistically I think he is producing some the best stuff he has ever produced, so I think I am seeing an ascent. Personally, and spoken from the viewpoint of someone that went through early sobriety, I am highly encouraged by his interactions with others and his attitude. Seems to be an ascent as well. That is why I think it is a good time for him and his fans. While I'm sure many will stay away because of his past, I've been around long early sobriety long enough to offer support and wish for the best. YMMV

>>>who's artistic and personal decent has been so steep it even eclipses that of the declining quality of discourse on this message board

oops, I meant whose, as in: Ryan Adams, whose quality of musical output objectively tanked after 2007....

instead of who's, as in: Ryan Adams, who's been credibly accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women...

that was an embarrassing mistake, not nearly as embarrassing as still being a proud supporter of Ryan Adams but I digress.

I do, however, admire your optimism in believing bad people can change, Tony.
I believe it's important to have faith in rehabilitation and give people a chance to do so.

I sincerely hope RA doesn't let u down as he already has so many others in the past

I sincerely hope RA doesn't let u down as he already has so many others in the past

I honestly could care less if he let's me down. My hope is that he doesn't let himself down.

I just consume his art. I don't know him or hangout with him so I really don't care how he's doing.  This last album sounded like alternate takes of his throwaway material.

.  >>>This last album sounded like alternate takes of his throwaway material.

even if they didn't, RA releasing an album right now is practically like if Bill Cosby decided this would b an appropriate time to make ghost dad II

> the declining quality of discourse on this message board

Yeah, what we really could use are some more sporadic, hit-and-run posters to improve the discourse around here.

If he does let himself down, I hope he streams it.

That would be more interesting than this new material.

Mike, who's doing hit and run posting in this thread?

It's kinda hard to say just yet, Hoover. Is this a qualitative, or quantitative, assessment?

Edwards is the closest thing to a hit and run poster in this thread, his weak ass zone game is the kinda shit contributing to viva engagement being so low.

Ski furthur and co. In here talking bout real grown ass shit.

add something to the discourse or b on your way, brah.

Your assessment is worth less than the most recent RA album

E, you're overlooking the fact that I am engaging here, not hitting and running, and if you reread the thread, you should discover that you're the one who went off topic here.

Thanks for the shamey finger though. I feel validated by it.

< hit-and-run posters

Like the old timeys who showed up recently to say 'hi'  but then faded right back into the woodwork ?  Same as they ever were,  boring motherfuckers with nothing to say. When todays admin relinquishes the reins and this place does finally change direction, I vote for Mike E as new admin. He's a good white nigga,, not too retarded.

Ooops I'm banned

Thanks for your show of support, Ras, but did you really have to drag it through the muck?

>>E, you're overlooking the fact that I am engaging here, not hitting and running, and if you reread the thread, you should discover that you're the one who went off topic here

i know you're stupid and terrible at zoning, mike, But this is a RA thread and you're the only one in here whose comments have nothing to do with the topic

I never claimed my comments had anything to do with the original topic. I responded to your off-topic critique of Viva.

the declining quality of discourse on this message board

< I never claimed

LOL all you do is claim shit in this place. Half the time you're like some kind of ultra boring anal behavioral compass.

Fuck you think you are ?

Still love ya tho my n***a

Ras what in the actual fuck is your deal with the n word dude?

Tired of seeing it here. Aside from the obvious, it just brings this whole place down.

and to be very clear this is not about your "right" to say what you want, it's about how comfortable you clearly are in saying it.

fucking check your head and cut the shit man

OK then, back to his art for a second. When Terrapin Crossroads opened RA gave a painting to Phil. I believe it was titled "self-portrait". I would call it an abstract. It remained in the upstairs office for all the years TXR was opened. Long story short, I ended up with it. So I was just wondering if the painting had any worth to it.

Just like his music, depends who you ask ;)

I'm more interested in the long story, than the value, lol.

Long story is my house is like a TXR museum.

Damn E, you got a rock in your shoe, or did someone hack your account?

And Peak, I'd bet there are some who'd like to use that painting as a dart board.

Got a photo?

Maybe later for that photo.

> Damn E, you got a rock in your shoe

That's a much nicer metaphor than I would've chosen if actual fucks were given.

I was wondering the same thing, Lance.

a rock in my pocket and a worn out shoe...

>>>Damn E, you got a rock in your shoe or did someone hack your account?

I'm under contractual obligations to appear legitimately furious in at least a few posts per year

Meh. Seemed more like phoned-in fury rather than real heat to me.

But seriously dude, if you're concerned about the quality of discourse on the black screen, spend more time here and make it better. Do that, and your criticisms won't ring so hollow.

LOL. LOL. LOL

That's it mike, I'm rescinding your nomination for grand poobah. The thought of being in charge has clearly gone to your fragile egg shell coconut and sent you over the edge.

My nod now goes to the only one truly qualified to handle you chimpanzees - - Noodler

Noodler's a fine zoner, Ras, but I would've thought you would've picked Bss for the helpful comments he made to you above.

>>>I'm under contractual obligations to appear legitimately furious in at least a few posts per year<<<

Ah, I see. Appearances are important, obligations even more.

My contractual obligation isn't personal insults, it's to post at least five 8+ paragraph circumlocutions a year.

I negotiated that to be either sports or music related.

I think I got the better deal E.

Either way, it's (almost) always good to see you posting.

Any chance your hitting one of the Residents shows in SF next week?

Hope all is well up there in the sticks.

Carry on.

>>>Seemed more like phoned-in fury rather than real heat to me.

I'd say that's fitting for a RA thread these days.

Is peak ever gonna post a pic of that painting?

I'd like to see.

big surprise Phil didn't want to keep that, similar to it's no surprise Phil ain't covered no RA tunes in quite some time.

I wonder if Elton John still returns his calls

>>>>it's (almost) always good to see you posting

that was almost an insult; there's hope for u yet, lance.

>>>Any chance your hitting one of the Residents shows in SF next week?

probably not, guess I'll have to wait for the official movie release.

I can't believe that's happening, amazing; the residents r crazy and amazing.

I couldn't decide between going to that, kurt vile in Sonoma or mike Keneally and San Diego.

looks like Keneally got Covid though and that show's not happening.

seems like every time I try and see a band over the last 4 months a fairly crucial member gets Covid a few days prior, weird year.

So no, instead of heading south, I'm just gonna head furthur into the sticks next week and see Meg Baird open for the dude from moon duo and wooden shjips new band for like $11.50.

That's a deal better than lance's insultless five 8+ paragraph contractually obligated circumlocutions, assuming no one in the band is out with Covid....

That's my boy, Mike.

Confucius Say - Person who can't laugh at ones self, missing out on a lotta fun.

>>>I'll have to wait for the official movie release<<<

They are doing the show again on Sunday specifically to film it, with only 50 audience members allowed in. I passed on that, as I don't really want to see the process of how they come up with, well....... whatever it is they do.

>>>that was almost an insult; there's hope for u yet, lance<<<

Thanks E. It's good to have goals.

I'll keep trying.

php1Oicb9AM.jpgI never said it was good.

It's not LOL!

Say what you will about Ryan Adams but remember Phil Lesh's comment about him being fearless. Evidence of this is his choice of encore on the first date of his current northeast solo tour. Not many, if any, would encore with Black Sabbath's The Wizard...at Carnegie Hall no less!

i think he ripped that off from one of Mouse's live paintings...

^ I see a guy tied to a chair being forced to listen to Ryan Adams play Black Sabbath covers in that painting. It's disturbing.

I like the rocks I see in the corner, though.

I've always wondered why ryan and jackie greene never recorded an album together?

< I like the rocks I see

LOL LOL LOL

Good shit man hahaaaaa fuckin Alan - ' I see a rock and wonder, why not ?'

>Not many, if any, would encore with Black Sabbath's The Wizard...at Carnegie Hall no less!

sausage fest crowd?

It is Chicago

Carnegie Hall is in NYC.

> I never said it was good.

Ryan's talents are clearly songwriting and abusing women.

Thanks for posting the painting, peak (and presumably picking a pack pickled peppers)

truly that RA is a haunted Halloween head of a man, so I guess sabbath makes sense in a way.

Now I must b off to the land of lost costal woods primeval, lands of gary fish and roses, not those cold which lay in the heart of a damaged Ryan adams, but those of a band hotter than a Portland summer night.

post haste and away with me leaving u all to dance your twisted viva dance anon, adieu!

After listening to a few and attending the recent east coast tour closer in NJ on Sat night, I have to say that Ryan Adams is delivering the good live better than he ever has before. Most of the shows clocked in at over 3 hour with 30+ songs performed each night in a single set/no break format. He dug deep with any number of songs he has never performed before and nail every song he touched. The only glitch in the show I attended was due to the venue not turning on the air conditioning early in the morning so in the beginning of the show the guitars were stabilizing to the environment and having a hard time staying in tune. That problem disappeared after about 90 mins and never returned. While understandably frustrated with this, I'm sure a large part of the audience was thinking that he was about to melt down and cut the show short like he has many times in the past. He didn't, powered thru it all with quite a bit of humor and acted like a pro.

I've seen a lot of Ryan Adams shows before this one and don't say that this was among his best lightly. His voice was by far the best it's ever been and that's saying something. If anybody out there is on the fence about attending the upcoming west coast dates; don't be. You will witness some magic.
