I don't think anything is routine when you are a 36 year old professional athlete. Cilic had the momentum going into the 5th set and, like all great athletes (Jordan, Woods, Brady) Federer was able to dig deep for that extra effort when it was needed most.

I’m going to have to agree with Thom here. You feel free to call that tournament “routine” if that’s what gets you through the night. The last time Federer was ranked number one in the world was in 2012 and he is poised to take that top spot again soon which will make a six year gap which is pretty amazing.
The guy is clearly one of if not the greatest men’s tennis player of all time.
I know Mr. T and I really had to hunker down and consult with my inner circle before making that post since I had no idea up until this thread that any of our thoughts intersected. I’ll take some penicillin later.
