Robin Trower

Forums:

Robin Trower kicks of his US 2018 tour tomorrow night (in Maryland).

I have been a fan of Robin Trower for 40 years. Missed seeing him open for Jethro Tull at Shae Stadium & had to wait until 1984 to see him my one and only time.

I was first table in front of his Marshall Stack Amp and it was amazing show watching him get down on his Wah-Wah, as he drops his jaw and carefully bends and swells the notes.

I just read that Robin has given Robert Fripp guitar lessons.

I have a ticket to the Palm Sunday show at the Paramount in Huntington NY. Really looking forward to the show, even with the projected bad weather

Check him out:

Joan May sends us the following tribute to Robin from Robert Fripp, 1996, as appears on the liner notes to the BGO 2-on-one reissues of Robin's early solo albums.

"Robin Trower is one of the very few English guitarists that have mastered bends and wobbles. Not only has he got inside them, with an instinctive knowing of their affective power, but they went to live inside his hands. It is the rare English guitarist who has been able to stand alongside American guitarists and play with an equal authority to someone grounded in a fundamentally American tradition.

Trower has been widely criticised for his influences. This has never bothered me. I toured America in 1974 with Ten Years After top of the bill, King Crimson second, and Robin Trower bottom. The chart positions were the opposite: TYA in the Billboard 160s, Crimson in the 60s and Trower climbing remorselessly through the top twenty. Nearly every night I went out to listen to him. This was a man who hung himself on the details: the quality of sound, nuances of each inflection and tearing bend, and abandonment to the feel of the moment. He saved my life.

Later, in England, he gave me guitar lessons."

Thank you sir ^

I studied musical theory a bit and was always critical of the lack of musical correspondence, based on the capabilities of the 6 string guitar.

(I would have to check to see if Segovia or Carlos Montoya free-styled a  bit)

There are tacets in musical structure that are in untranscribable in wonderful pieces of music like Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Chile.

Robin Trower finds 1/8th steps (that's 8 musical intervals) in G Clef musical notation are only allowed to have One Whole Step or Half Steps (2 musical intervals between each note up or down)  It's a natural bend for him.

Sounds real pretty too.

A lot goes back to Albert and Freddy King,  then the Tejas sounds of Johnny Winter (huge fan in the 70's), Billy Gibbons, and later SRV.  Jimi made it his own, and owned it!  Robin Trower seemed to be in that school, but he had some prog rock sensibilities (where everyone tried to be different, which I love, and a great reality of the Bay area music scene as well).  So many greats, but I love the personality players, regardless of ones personal tastes, you can always pick out Garcia, Santana, Jimi, etc, in just a few notes, even if you've never heard the song!

This is on the inner sleeve of the BLT (Bruce, Lorden, Trower) Truce CD reissue I just got.

Which has 2 pages on Jack Bruce himself. Robin Trower & Jack Bruce put out 3 albums together. The last was made when Jack was sick.

Jack Bruce did an interview with XM and said Robin Trower was his favorite guitar player, he was sucker for great Wah-Wah.

Can't wait for Sunday's show.

Seeing him in Portland on the 31st. Can't wait

Right on Boone. I know what your saying.  Please report back.

3/31 is the Saturday night before Easter.   Robin is a real nice guy and expect that show to be special.

Update: Robin Trower has the flu and had to cut the Annapolis Maryland show short last night & us resting in a hospital.

The Birchmere show is canceled tonight (where is that)?

As is the New York City show this Friday. They are letting him rest today.

I had the flu the season and I found aches and pains in my body that I had never felt before. Plus complete exhaustion. I would stand, and need to sit back down to sleep. Lasted over a week, I think.

A week ago-I felt it im my system again (with complete exhaustion), but without the aches.

If Robin rests and cancels the Sunday show I was going to, he can save half the tour. If he is not able to rest today he should go back home to the UK and cancel the tour

Flu symptoms last 2 weeks.

Hoping for full good health to be restored very soon.

Today, Robin Trower feels well enough to still perform at the Wellmount Theater in NJ.

Tonight's show in NJ is on. Go.

Wow! Nice shot!

I just purchased Robin Trower's 2015 release - Where Are You Going to? (2015).  Just arrived.

I was trying to purchase his most recent release, and didn't realize his has one that just came out. His mercantile on-line store is down, it says all the items in stock are on the road and to go to one of his shows.

Hope he feels well tonight and have my fingers crossed for tomorrow night's show here on LI.

Tonight's Robin Trower show at The Wellmount has been canceled due to illness.

As has tomorrow's show at the Paramount in Huntington.

Bummer

Robin's manager  Derek, said to me in an email that they see that the building seems to be available in late October, if they can string a few more shows, they may be back 10/2018.

I brought up the Boulton Center (that Robin played before) and the Paramount. I believe he was referring to the Paramount.

I took this photograph this past Saturday night of an autographed 2009 Robin Trower poster on the wall of the Boulton Center.

In that refection, you can see the main Boulton Center photo/poster wall.  That's the meet & greet area..

my first live concert ever, salt palace maybe 1976, hope he plays many many more shows.
