Yes, John, a crushing loss. Just a few days after releasing his new record.
I'd place him with Burning Spear as the greatest Reggae performer I have witnessed. I never saw Bob Marley or Peter Tosh, but I've seen Steel Pulse, Dennis Brown, Black Uhuru. Bunny Wailer, Israel Vibration, who were all excellent live performers, but Toots could take his audience to the highest heights.
>>>>>the only time I saw him live was the show where that fucking stupid, drunk kid threw a glass vodka bottle that hit him in the face.
Really? You were at that show?
Saw Toots many times before that and dude brought it on so many levels. But what was most surprising was how he looked like a man 30 years younger than he was. Guy was ripped and full of energy.
But then he got hit by the bottle, which took him out of action for a while. He finally returned to touring and saw him once after that and he looked worse for wear and sadly had half the energy he used to bring. I was so pissed at the kid who threw the bottle and wished they had thrown him into a cell with some hard core Jamaican gang-bangers and came back to check on him in a week or so. Later read that Toots had forgiven the guy saying that young men do stupid shit. What a gentleman.
>>>>read that Toots had forgiven the guy saying that young men do stupid shit. What a gentleman.
after suing the shit out of him for like a million dollars.
POS kid was the spoiled, underaged, drunken son of the local DA or some shit though, so no idea how much toots actually got in the settlement, but it was always more about the principle anyway because, yes, Toots was a class act

Well this is some hard time
Well this is some hard time situation bullshit :(
No lies told, The man was a lion, just an absolute brilliant positive vibration in a world full of darkness.
the only time I saw him live was the show where that fucking stupid, drunk kid threw a glass vodka bottle that hit him in the face.
alotta people questioned if that was the end of his career, but of course Toots was stronger than that.
if u all haven't heard his final album that just came out, I recommend it

I would echo what Dave said. Of many greats, not many greater.
