May this American classic rock in peace. From the first time I saw him with Tuff-Darts up until a couple of years ago, he always gave his all on stage and was one of the nicest people that I've ever met in rock. He will be missed.
6/25/82 Jerry Garcia & John Kahn - The Palladium, New York, NY
Deep Elem Blues, Friend Of The Devil, I've Been All Around This World, Bird Song, Oh Babe It Ain't No Lie, Run For The Roses, Ripple
Benefit for Sandy Alexander; also Rogue, Bo Diddley, Ronnie Spector, Robert Gordon, Moonbeam
one of my oldest high school friends (that I am still actively in touch with) is Robert's nephew. I'm learning a bunch about him today. Apparently his stories in NYC are fairly legendary. Do you know if he played with Jerry and John on that bill? With a late night start, doubt all those musicians would played separate sets.
Again , just curious and thanks for sharing...
Marshall Tucker Band was performing that evening. They used the drum riser of Rick Frank (Rogue) so that didn’t have to change over for the midnight show. It was a crazy night. A man jumped from the balcony and just missed the sound board. The plan had been to just clear out the theater and bring on Jerry, but it was a cluster . My recollections was it didn’t start until after 2 am. There was a set break, I recall this specifically as we were in the balcony and at the set break a guy came running down from above and vaulted the railing . I believe that was around 4 AM , the show wasn’t over until after 5 and I remember daylight creeping up as we left the theater. It was a pretty crazy night – I’ve never have seen so many Hells Angels with their bikes parked along 14th street
I saw Ronnie Spector, Bo Diddley, Garcia/Kahn, then Gordon closed. The legends did not play together. Garcia was supposed to be off on the 25th, 3 shows before, 3 after. Guess they didn't want to cancel Tucker, and Jerry would bring the crowd, show was sold out, billed as Garcia and Friends.

The leaper was early in the night, during Rogue's pre-Bo mini-set.
He was taking two steps at a time as he ran down the aisle. I turned to pass the wineskin and missed it when everyone in front of us stood up.
My buddy said he planted his hands on the rail and sort of did a handstand before continuing over.
I remember Chris Spedding (Gordon's guitarist) repeatedly getting shocked while playing his guitar.
