RIP Pegi Young

Forums:

Damn. I had opportunities to interact with her over the years. She was a REALLY cool person.

"With great sadness, we confirm that on January 1st, after a yearlong battle with cancer, Pegi Young - mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, musician, activist and co-founder of the Bridge School - passed away surrounded by her friends and family in her native California. We request that the families' privacy be respected at this time."

On it goes.

So sad.  Watching her and Neil interact on stage in that Heart of Gold movie made you think that's a couple who would last forever.

The old laughing lady....RIP

Damn it, another person dying at a young age (66) from cancer. That's the way of it, but it really sucks.

God Bless Pegi  Young. Through her work at The Bridge School, and The Bridge Benefit Concerts, she devoted her life to helping SO many people. Rest In Peace, Pegi. heart

Rest In Peace.

RIP Pegi.

I wonder if Neil will show up with Daryl?    Douche...

RIP Pegi

She seemed genuinely good.  Condolences to her family.

That Jonathan Demme movie "Heart Of Gold" documents a high time for her.

RIP

I don't get the digs on Neil for going a different direction.  Maybe you have info I don't but marriage is not an easy thing.   I think everyone loves and respects Pegi and perhaps was just disappointed Neil left.  For whatever reason, it wasn't working for him and he did something about it and found someone that connected with him.  Good on him, life is short (as I sit here in the hospital with my mom).   I respect people for doing what makes them happy within reason.  So if i'm wrong on all this feel free to say so....I just haven't been in the know about the details of their relationship.

All that said, all love to Pegi's family and friends.  RIP

Sad to hear this news.

RIP Pegi.

Edit: ((((Vibes)))) for Zang's mom.

Very sad news..Oh my.

Pegi Young

1952-2019

RIP Pegi heart

She must have been sick for 2 weeks.

I was working on re mastering her first Bridge School benefit production of Neil singing "I Am a Child" for my ny mini movie

I closed my session at the library without saving my work.

2 days later. I was going back to the well to re engineer I Am  a Child and UMG; who is usually working with chalk, had to digitally stop me in the midst of my work.

I thought they did have the video of it after researching that particular performance they did not.

There are the Princesses Crown Jewels.

RIP Pegi Young

Step back Angles, the benchmark has just been raised a few clouds ~

Bluelight ~

There were many great songs written for Pegi Young by Neil. She truly was the Unknown Legend.

"She used to work in a diner...Never saw a woman look finer... I used to order just watch her float across the floor."

R.I.P. Pegi... "Once an Angel Always an Angel."

She played a pretty good set (backed by Neil's guys when she opened for him @ United Palace Theatre, or whatever they were calling Rev Ike's old place in '07.

Bluelight.... check your lyrics on Powderfinger. You strayed on every line.

>>She truly was the Unknown Legend.

Okay terrific..

Not only is she a world wide philanthropist; she is has a Executive Production credentials that are "Well Known", Shaky Whe ever?

I was an A+ Student on Neil Young in 71 well prior to Decade & have received accolades on my movie of his from his record company & mgmt as soon as I published it & WMG purchased the right to it in its entirety.

Double check my spelling on that one..

One word wrong. Even in California reading school that's not cool.

Just think of me as one you never figured

Would fade away so young

With so much left undone

Remember me to my love; I know I'll miss her

RIP

Hurts

Yet another dose of sobering reality and sad news

Gol Dern.....The benefit concert she helped drive for the best cause, with the best musicians in the world,  right here in the back yard was always the highlight of the year and I doubt I missed three of them.  Miss it. Those shoes and that event were magical

Good post Zang.

They were together a long time and yes Cute together

and as Peggy said she was no picnic   Even so sometimes there's ants at the picnic

Damn. Looks like Neil dodged a bullet by dumping her before she became a burden.

RIP

((( Zang & Zang's mom )))

'Atta boy Mark.

Zoner Post of The Year 2019 so far.

You made me laugh at that one.

But now Neil is stuck with an aging Daryl?

Bluelight ... not that this really matters but... I was not to good at math growing up in Philly and Louisville KY. I got a little better during my 15 years in Chicago. My English teacher wife has helped me too! I am into lyrics because they determine what word lands on the chord. I count 3 wrong and 2 missing words in your post up there. Remember! "There are 3 kinds of people who understand math.. Those that do and those that don't."

I stopped reading your stuff. Watch a hand full of my movies and then I will

But since you have not -

Two things regarding your chosen stage name

1 - Shakey is in reference to a neurological disability. Neil found it therapeutic to take the punchers in the stomach from family and friends, but not sharp as a bag rock fans

The autobiography is taking that bull by the horns and sharing the horror of those afflicted by MS, MD and others cut from the same clothe.

You could have not chosen a worse first name in your stage name if you stayed up all night.  Is this a hobby?

2 - Zimmerman.  You wii NOT find one single stanza in which Bob Dylan refers to his own family, their ethnicity, or Germany's nation or culture.

Think this out. This name may be humorous to you, but my God not to the Youngs or Bob Dylan.

Bluelight ~

Played the "Harvest Moon" and "Prairie Wind" albums back to back yesterday.  Those two share a kindred spirit.

I guess that the real reason there was no Bridge School show last year was due to Pegi's health.  It would be a nice tribute to her if they get it up and running again.

Her health wasn't the reason the shows stopped, but I agree that either Live Nation or Another Planet should try to pick up that ball and carry it.

In my work with special needs teenagers in the south bay area I've crossed paths with Bridge School students and have seen what that place can do. It's possible the Bridge School has created different sources of income, but even if that's the case (and likely isn't the case) I worry that without Pegi the school may lose it's focus & drive.

Neil was the figurehead, but Pegi was the leader.

As for the concerts, neither of them did much of the actual work planning & producing them, but Pegi was still the driving force for those as well.

BTW, with posts like those above, how the hell did Bluelight not win ZOTY?

He's definitely starting 2019 strong.

truly gone fishing~

Here is a more detailed review of her life.

So sad, another chapter of Bay Area Music Life has come to an abrupt end. Thanks for the memories

Shakey Pictures first film was Journey Through The Past. Neil's pals gave him the nickname due to his love of hand held cameras. He had some trouble keeping his hands still and that's where the nickname comes from. A number of films have since been released by Shakey Pictures. I don't really think he minds me using the name. Same with Bob. Neil personally gave me permission to record his unreleased song called "Everybody's Alone" back in 2003 when I released a CD of 10 Songs 5 of which were his. Not only did he give me permission. He personally told me he enjoyed my version of his song. I got a real good one off with Barry Sless and myself handling the guitar parts. He finally did release his it a few years ago on an Archives release. I believe my many Neil Young interactions like sitting on his bus with Ben Keith, Ralph, Anthony Crawford and Rick Rosas, playing guitars would be one of mine you would be hard pressed to top Mr Light.

Lonesome Day Blues.. composed by Bob Dylan."Set my dial on the radio. I wish my Mother was still alive" Is he referring to someone else's Mother?

Shakey Zimmerman is the name of a CD as well as the name of my current band. We get good gigs. Bob Weir gave it a thumbs up when he came to my gig at his killer nightclub in Mill Valley. Have you been?

Sorry to pee in your Post Toasties Mr Blue dude but you seem to be a strange unit that needs to do some homework and up the Watts in your lightbulb. Work on it. It's more productive than your current gig here.

Yes. but his bands mates have known him as Shakey since 67 w/ Springfield, because of what I had written above...

Bernard Shakey still still exists as copywrite & plays guitar

ok.

In an interview on National Public Radio, Jimmy McDonough commented on the nickname "Shakey" as the title of his biography on the rock and roll icon Neil Young: "'Shakey' was a nickname Neil Young's pals gave him after they watched some home movies he had made. His camera was none too steady.

My tribute to Pegi. We recorded this live and it is straight from my heart live.
