Saw Seaver pitch a bunch of times, albeit at the tail end of this career, including his first start on the Red Sox. He didn't have an exploding fastball anymore and relied on the craft, which he still had in spades.
As a kid growing up in Huntington, NY from the 1965-1973, he was one of my first Sports heroes. The day the Mets traded him to the Reds for Steve Henderson was the day I abandoned the Mets and became an Orioles fan for life (we had moved to Fairfax County, Virginia by then). The Mets were very bad for a stretch then until the Gooden-Carter-Strawberry-Hernandez years.
I read Seaver's biography when I was a kid, and remember that he was from Fresno. I'm guessing this one is hitting Mark D hard as he is a big baseball fan and a Fresno native son.
Tough to hear that Mr. Seaver was hit with the double-whammy of Lewy-Body Dementia and COVID. Glad that he is beyond the pain of this world, and hoping his family may find peace.
Tom Seaver for Steve Henderson, Pat Zachary, Dan Norman and Doug Flynn. Same day they dealt Dave Kingman to The Padres for Bobby Valentine. The worst day in Mets history rivaled only by the 1988 NLCS against The Dodgers which was more than 1 day but after winning EVERY regular season game against the dodgers we lose The NLCS.

Seaver was one of the greats,
Seaver was one of the greats, no doubt. I grew up in Connecticut and was a Red Sox fan, but you had to admire Seaver's talent and his character too.

Sigh. As a lifelong Met fan from the beginning, he made us valid. Another part of my youth gone. I feel a whole lot older tonight. RIP Tom Terrific

One of the all time greats
One of the all time greats for sure- back when baseball was a real game - and pitchers were men- who pitched complete games - not 6 innings.
Never got to see him pitch in person - unfortunately.
