I'm glad I caught the tribute set he played with his sons in the Jazz Tent at Jazz Fest last year. Delfeayo gave a brief speech where he pointed out that while the rest of the world knew of him primarily as a musician, in New Orleans he was most known as an educator. Then to prove the point they brought out 4 young kids he was mentoring to play with the band. I had to bail on 2/3 of Van Morrison's set at the Acura Stage to see that, and am glad I did.
New Orleans has lost Dr. John, Art Neville and now Ellis Marsalis, three of it's legendary keyboardists, over the last year.

Very sad news. This virus
Very sad news. This virus is going to take a significant bite out of our elder musicians I fear.
Saw Delfeayo this Christmas as he played a new Education Center we were opening. A lot of fun and highly recommended if you haven't seen him.
