RIP: Ed King Lynyrd Skynyrd Guitarist Passes Away

RIP - Ed took a lot of shit from Ronnie, especially when he was drunk, who told Ed that he "wasn't a pimple on Allen Collins' ass."   Eventually, Ed had enough with all the drinking, fighting, and mean behavior and split.  Probably saved his life.

Ed was already getting royalty checks on behalf of his work as a founding member w/ the Strawberry Alarm Clock  & did not take the job as band member but as hired hand. Ed was walking around playing Sweet Home Alabama and had the claims on it as his song before touring. All indications is that Ronnie hired him for that song.

Plus Ed had made it clear that what made Sweet Home so cool  was the-out-of-phase-single-coil-pickups-selected on his Strat. The song was complete.

He was forward thinking enough to not let LS manger screw with the pulse of hs $ intake

Saw him (along with original members Gary Rossington, Billy Powell and Leon Wilkeson) in a '99 show at the Eureka Speedway.

Really solid player.

Fly High Freebird

Gaines was good but we never thought he was better than King.

Showtime premiered a 2 hour documentary on the band last weekend,  Already seen it twice, great program, they speak with him quite a bit.
