RIP Charlie Daniels

Forums:

Another one of the greats gone.

Will be missed

Saw him at least 12 times, l always made my way out to see him when he was in the area. He was big on the chili cook off scene and my brother rarely missed a cook off in south Florida.

May my brother Bob and Charlie RIP

It was a damn shame when he went over to the dark side.

Charlie was such a in-demand session musician.  He played on several of Dylan's albums including Nashville Skyline.  In fact, a number of years back, he came out with his own tribute album to Dylan called 'Off the Grid - Doin' It Dylan.'  Saw him several times back in the day.  RIP

Yep.  Its him playing fiddle on a lot of Marshall Tucker songs too.

He produced the Youngbloods' classic "Elephant Mountain".

I didn't know he backed Leonard Cohen as well.

rip Charlie

I liked his sort of new version of Tangled up in Blue.

RIP.

This is sad news.

I was a big fan of his, especially before Devil Went Down to Georgia, which blew him right to the top and mainstreamed him.

As for his political & religious leanings over the years, people have the right to have their views and he always seemed to be a thoughtful man. For a long time I had a hard time with him changing the lyrics to my favorite CDB song, Long-Haired Country Boy, changing "I get stoned in the morning, I get drunk in the afternoon" to "I get up in the morning, I get down in the afternoon", but over the years I realized he just didn't want to have a negative influence on kids about drugs & alcohol, which is fair enough.

He was a great musician and was a thoughtful man who stood up for what he believed in without being TOO preachy about it.

"You may mentally and intellectually disagree with people, but you don't have to be nasty about it. You certainly don't have to be physical about it. So if you don't like me, it's okay, just leave me alone"

I can live with that.

Trudy is a great song.

Love Charlie always. He was one of the best of the southern music rockers in the 70's, the golden age of southern rock. Seen him with the Allman Bros, Wet Willie, 38 Special, Tucker, Skynyrd, Outlaws, back when they all smoked hard. Saw CDB a few times in the past 10 years, not all were smokers, but the last time time seeing him was astounding. Last November at the Palace, him and his band fuckin killed it. They did like a 15 minute Saddle Tramp, really top notch show. Had tickets to see him again this Nov. Fuck

And I'll always love Charlie for helping get my man Roy Buchanan noticed, helped get him a recording contract early on. Thanks Charlie !!!! RIP You'll be missed.

It's my life, God was the one to give it
And I ain't gonna let nobody tell me how to live it
It's my song, right or wrong
You can tag along or you can stay behind

Saw Charlie 12/30/80 at the Capital Centre on my Birthday. He had a bunch of I think square dancers on stage during one moment. Only time I saw him.
