Florida gov blames coronavirus rise on ‘overwhelmingly Hispanic’ workers

California will probably do that.

Unfortunately, the cramped conditions in many food processing facilities and migrant labor camps have been a breeding ground for Covid outbreaks in the often largely Hispanic workforce.

And it's well documented that Blacks and Latinos have suffered disproportionate rates of Covid deaths and serious illness.

Hispanic workers blames coronavirus rise on 'overwhelmingly moronic' governor

The aforementioned moron is obviously a Trump boot-licker.

Unreal what "power" does to people. Just does not bode well for the future.

NY post just feeding off the money train which is "racism" in the media. Obviously they can't get enough of racism and covid so if only they can mix the two th way will be able to cause more social outcry's from across the nation. I don't live in FL so honestly I don't care what this human being says or thinks. It is possible that there is an outbreak in the Hispanic migrant community seeing that the people who are living in lower income and poverty conditions are being hit the most, just as always. These people don't have the luxury of "stay inside" when they have to eat or pay rent or bills that aren't being suspended. If you want to help then donate to a food bank in Florida. Sitting around complaining about these things doesn't get anything done. Even just going out and petit eating ultimately does nothing if no real action towards a goal is taken.

Yes the Latino workers, especially the Guatemalans are having a fuck ton of problems with it. Indiantown is a minority town 25 miles west of the coast. Their numbers are out of hand.

Many families live in a small house or an apartment. I have seen 24 bench bus seats in a 2 bedroom apartment before, 3 women stay home to cook and clean and 21 others go pack in a truck, bus or van and head east to work as laborers. A lot are painters. They get to work with no masks, load up 4-8 in a work van, hit the gas station to get lunch with little to zero distancing, and then go off to a job.

There is of corse a language barrier, they tend to kiss each other when arriving and leaving too. If you look at it it is a perfect storm for spreading the "silent enemy".

Our little county is having a 30% increase of cases daily. We had 127 yesterday.

DeSantis is Trumps fluff boy. It King Trump farts DeSantis will tell you what he ait for lunch he is so far up his ass. He is opened far all and everything and is not shutting down, slowing down and has zero intentions to help slow the spread.

In 2 weeks we are welcoming with open arms 25-40 thousand people to the space coast for the Junior Olympics.

What do I fuckin know, I'm just a burn out deadhead trying to stay safe in a state ful of lunatics.

they tend to kiss each other

If wages were in pace with housing costs this wouldn't have ever been an issue.

The typical lifestyle in the US requires--and some might say "demands"--inexpensive consumer goods. This is a big part of the reason the middle class in the US has been gutted; we won't pay for stuff that requires a living wage to produce. But rather than hold ourselves accountable for the social problems that arise from our short-sighted consumerism, we tend to scapegoat the people who work for low wages to produce cheap stuff. So, if COVID-19 is on the rise again in certain populations, the cause of the uptick is really a problem of our own making.

What did trump have for lunch ?

I do believe there are a few good politicians

but it is  very cloudy out there

A responsible Florida business, and one of the best venues in Florida

Urgent Update

Effective today and for the unforeseeable future, we are CLOSED. We will continue to post updates to social media as a reopen date becomes available. Why are we closing?

This morning, the Skipper's Smokehouse ownership and management have been notified that one of our employees was alerted through contact tracing that they may have been exposed to COVID-19 - this in addition to our carefully watching the numbers of positive cases and trends rise dramatically over the course of the past several days, we feel closing immediately is the most socially responsible thing for us to do to keep not only our staff but our patrons as safe as we possibly can. At this time, NONE of our staff have tested positive for COVID-19 - but, the contact trace alert is concerning to us.

What you can expect before we reopen? It will be required that ALL employees that work on site be tested for COVID-19 and be symptom free before returning to work. In addition to that, we will be performing extra deep cleaning processes during the closure and upon reopening.

We have worried this day would arrive for us and it has. There comes a time when being socially responsible and putting health, well being and safety above business as almost usual is the absolute right thing to do. A monetary amount, good times, delicious meals and tasty cocktails will never be more valuable than your life to us. Therefore, we are erring on the side of extreme safety in this case.

We are here to answer any questions or concerns our patrons might have - again, NO ONE has tested positive on our staff. If you have questions or concerns, you can contact us at [email protected]

We love you all so much. We appreciate just shy of four decades of your support. Now, we ask that those who disagree with this decision respect our choice to be socially responsible.

^ Well said. It proves some Florida business owners are realizing the urgency at the moment, in spite of our genius governor.

Go Skipper's.

I can't believe the amount of people eating out around here, even though a lot of restaurants do have a lot of outdoor seating with properly spaced tables. St. Pete was supposed to open our incredible new Pier a few weeks ago, Tampa Bay Lightning players getting in on the fun- Buc's coaches, too. Just an old-school Flintstone gay old time down here.

We love staying in downtown St. Pete, can't wait to see the new pier

we need to get out and chose the area around Lover's Key State Park to spend the upcoming vacation, nice strip of not many hotels and protected land. Get out in the kayak.

still sticking with take out for the time being

I landed one of the two restaurants on the new St. Pete Pier, Joe, and have been out there a couple times- I can assure you it's gorgeous and will be a big hit. Well, maybe I should reserve comment 'til the "new normal" unfolds, but it's slated to be cracked out July 6, so we'll see if that happens. I have to give credit to the mayor's who stepped up and made masking mandatory in Tampa and St. Petersburg when in stores or whatever place.

The "reopening" Trump ordered DeSantis to push isn't going too well, so far.
