Restaurant refused to take a "to go" order

Forums:

Even though we said we'd be OK with an exceptionally long wait, they refused to take the order & wanted us to call back later.  Apparently, they were deluged and wanted to ease up the stress on the kitchen.   From the restaurant's point of view, wouldn't it be best to "secure" the order up front?

"Gosh." "It's" "hard" "to" "say."

if they're too busy, nope.

just deal.

Why couldn't they just offer something completely skewed to their "favor" (i.e. 2 hours)?

There is obviously some sort of injustice going on here. I'd call a lawyer if I were you.

2 hours? why not just call back after their rush?

could be b/c after getting slammed for a couple hours,  prep may be running low or completely out-taking a to go order 2 hours in advance during the rush seems silly.

Best thing for them to do when that busy is to just not answer phone...callers will assume theyre slammed, call back, no answer again?...they ll either call somewhere else to eat, or if just drinkng, theyll say, "damn, lets go!"

" hurry"

"Now!"

And shit like that

dude, what the fuck is wrong with you and eating out?

It's always something

My heart-felt sympathies go out toward ye, incomplete on the takeout order.

That is rough.

I am a WereWolf,  and the local restaurants fulfill my "To-Go" wishes lest they have to deal with a WereWolve onslaught.

Around Full - Moon times, I get extra Fries angel

Hüsky is just an ordinary Canine, not a WereWolf. chip02_1.JPG

However, he has been lately reading Anabaptist literature and watching Bela Lugosi flicks, which worries me.

Been watching Marx Bros. stuff as well.

My fear is that Marxism can lead to WereWolfism once again.

So,

I do admit that I am a WereWolf,  and that is possibly the first step toward resolving the "problem" as if there ever existed such a thing.

More realistically, being a WereWolf has helped me along on my creative path.

I'm in charge of a pretty decent stockpile of WereWolf Art, Architecture, and common civil  engineering blueprints,  all tailored toward non-discriminatory Public Access for our WereWolf - oriented Citizens.

It's time to stop the discrimination and naughty thoughts toward our misunderstood Group.

WereWolves are your Pals. wink

Maybe it's time you learn to cook

Why does it take a secondary search on Google images to pull up the "real" Teen Wolf?

"Question Reality" <-- bumper sticker

But you know what the "real" Teen Wolf is referring to BECAUSE of my so-called "scare quotes".

All kidding aside, it is an interesting read Mikee.  I like to believe my flavor is more along the lines of:

"I take a softer view. To my mind, air quotes serve an important purpose. Modern life is complicated, and words have simultaneous meanings. We need a way to acknowledge that. Besides, irony can be fun. It can make us laugh. And we could all use more laughter."

^ whereas I embrace Descriptivism vs. Prescriptivism.   For those of you who consider yourselves "progressives", do you believe it's better to be bound by convention of the past or nudge the evolution of linguistic / epistemological discourse to their boundaries?   Likewise, do "thoughts" generated by the mind always fit neatly with a limited selection of words with prescribed meanings?  Perhaps most importantly, why knock any tool an a.casualty might have to express oneself?

Yea, 2 hours is plenty of time to go to the store and cook a great meal.

Of course, there's no oppression with that strategy, so you still go to bed "hungry".

I tried to order take out fish tacos from my favorite seafood place Friday and was denied because they were slammed. The owner told me it was always this busy there on Fridays during Lent. I'm not religious so that never crossed my mind (sorry for the pun). D'oh! I'm just glad they're doing well :)

Ya know, it's not  my "Choice".

I did not just wake up one morning and say "I think I'd like to be a WereWolf".

Many generations of selective breeding and unspeakable rituals made me the half-Hu-person, half Creature of the Night which is my trans-species identity.

And yet, my Hair is not Perfect.

That's a stereotype.

And it's not quite as Glamorous as you might think.

Just try to find the right pair of sexy, yet sensible WereWolf shoes.

Not that easy.

That wasn't an option, as it wasn't my decision to ultimately make ... since I was taking someone out for her birthday.  Probably would've gotten off cheaper!  We had already eaten a late lunch and were in town and didn't want to have to cook, so first choice was to pick something up for take out and eat later at home.

>dude, what the fuck is wrong with you and eating out?

reminds me of Catchabigone with his restaurant issues..

at least Faceplant on Mars isn't  crying about the lack of free sour dough.

Obviously never worked in restaurants.

> do you believe it's better to be bound by convention of the past or nudge the evolution of linguistic / epistemological discourse to their boundaries?

I'm a nudger more than I'm a bounder, Face, and I see air quotes as superfluous for the most part. To me, they read like noise on the line and take away from the message at least as much as they impart.

Obviously never worked in restaurants.<<<

Correctomundo, although I did work in concessions and as a vendor at MLB stadiums for 12 years ... first food/pop, then beer.

While I have the utmost respect for those that do put up with all of "us" who dine out ... I always kind of roll my eyes when I hear this sort of blanket response.  Not that the stress and torment isn't real and often over the top, but that it should serve as some sort of basis for "soup nazi-esq" business practices.

I now understand that certain bottlenecks re: capacity / output might be a real cause to put carry out orders on the backburner, but I still find it interesting how the food service industry often operates with emotion / stress dictating the pace of the game.

Fair enough Mikee, perhaps it serves my own purposes moreso than for yourself or others.

Rather nice to see the restaurateur take care of the front of house first at a very busy time.

>at least Faceplant on Mars isn't  crying about the lack of free sour dough.<

i do not find my request of the choice of sourdough to accompany my $14 eggs in san francisco is unreasonable....

>Rather nice to see the restaurateur take care of the front of house first at a very busy time.<

precisely! if i am a paying customer, physically in front of you trying to give you cash, that should take precedent. i can wait in line for 15 mins then some schmuck calls in on his cell phone to interrupt the transaction makes me batty. they usually don't know what they want and also are an asshole.

I can see giving precedence to people within one's immediate physical reality ... it's what I do re: cell phone usage (or not) when actual people are around.  Likewise, there's probably far lower risk of skipping out if people are present.

I've never disputed a restaurant's right to run their business how they choose, nor that there are great reasons to push carry out to a secondary tier.  What I don't quite get is the "heavy handed" approach of all or nothing?   There just seems to be an overarching acceptance of "not wanting to go there" from many in the restaurant business regarding implementing systems that might allow a limited number of carry out orders to be integrated into a busy order line in a manageable fashion.

I also get it about not wanting to stress out the kitchen staff ... likewise about not necessarily being able to anticipate precisely when demand will spike for those restaurants that aren't routinely busy 100% of the time,   It just seems like there's somewhat of an "emotional" dynamic at play re: kitchen stress that shuts the door on even considering systemic adjustments ... maybe for good reason, I don't know.

Go to the bar, order, have a drink while waiting, ask for a box when the food comes.

Very pragmatic approach, but would now wonder if they'd take offense at doing an end run around their carry out hiatus?

Probably Jills fault.

^ would still tip 20% on both food and drinks.
