I sat at home crying Wednesday morning over this message from David Bromberg....
*********************
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Peter Ecklund.
Peter played trumpet, flugelhorn and cornet with and wrote horn arrangements for David for over fifty years, starting in 1969. David used to introduce Peter as "the only person who's been in the band longer than I have!" In addition to his work with David, Peter performed or recorded with Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Leon Redbone, Geoff and Maria Muldaur, Gregg Allman, Jay & Molly, Loudon Wainwright III and others.
Peter courageously battled Parkinson's disease and continued to live on his own terms until the end. We'll miss you Peter.

I have seen Peter Ecklund countless times throughout my life, always in the context of the David Bromberg Band. HIs trumpet, flugelhorn and coronet playing and horn arrangements were always exquisite and Soulful, whether it was a slow tempo N'Awleans number or a bawdy Chicago Blues Rave up like Bromberg's "Sharon", Peter always added so much. There were fewer times that Peter didn't make Big Band shows, but if he missed one, it was always, "ahhhh, no Peter..." David used to introduce Peter as "the only person who's been in the band longer than I have!" So many dozens of good times and memories with David and Peter & Co. Thank you Peter, you were one of the quiet, Great Ones!. Condolences to Peter Ecklund's Family, Bandmates and loved ones. ~ DJ EZ

Aw.
Aw.
He looked pretty rough last time I saw him with David. Confused at times. Went to blow at one point, looked at his horn and then emptied his very full spit valve with a splash I could see from the last orch row.
Still a killer solo on Nobody's, tho'.
