The Residents live in SF

Forums:

Those crazy eyeballs are at it again. They're playing two shows at the very cool little Presidio Theatre in SF on May 13th & 14th.

And even for them, these shows sound pretty wild.

In most cases I would of course end this post with a GTTS! But I don't try to encourage people to go to a Residents show, they're WAY too bizarre for most. This is just a public announcement for those who may care.

thanks lance! ive been a big residents fan since i was around 12 or 13. they are a true art rock classic. might try to go to this one.

Thanks Lance. I've never seen them but they've been on my radar forever...looks like it would be weird enough for the wife, too.

Then again, we already have a lot of weirdness and madness in our lives....

Perhaps we'll go to the Presidio bowling ally also...always a hoot.

Thanks Tom. That was  a fun show @ The Castro. I have been a fan & attended their shows since about 1980.

My Little Brother Steven was a huge fan.

We used to go to Ralph Records a lot & were good friend with Tom Timony.Steven was also good friends with SnakeFinger.

Steven had so much memorabilia including all the props for "The Mole Show" & several Eyeball Heads. It was all lost in December, 2013 with his house fire & death in Bodega Bay.

This show is nearly sold out both nights.

I might likely get a ticket.

Doesn't look that way to me Crab. Neither show looks even half sold at this point, with almost all of the upper theater available. And that's a small theater so those are likely good seats.

I guess they performed this show last month, here's a clip to give folks a sense of what you'd be paying for.

Definitely a theatrical event, much different than what they've been doing for a long time now. More like what they used to do.

I don't know if it will be good, but it's certain to be interesting.

Blaise & I are in for Saturday.

Hello Lance.

Blaise & I & others saw the show last night.

As we didn't see you I guess you went on Friday.

I really enjoyed it. I liked it better than the show @ The Castro.

I hope they produce a DVD.

It was a nice venue with all good seats.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I've always wondered about The Residents, but never checked them out. That video Lance posted is one of the most tripped out things I've seen in a while.

Hey Crab!

Yeah, I saw the show on Friday, but also had a ticket to last night's show. Unfortunately, some life issues got in the way and I couldn't make it.

I also really loved the show. I was a bit concerned that it would be more of a theatrical piece, with lots of "stuff" and other performers with the musical aspect limited, but it was really just a great Residents show, with the main man featured throughout. I have to say that it was one of the better Residents shows I've seen, and I've seen pretty much everything they've done over the years.

That guitar player who's been in the group for years now is just great, and I really loved the additions of the trombone & violin to add depth to the sound, but damn, as always, the main guy stole the show. Even at his advanced age (he must be in his '70s) he is still such a captivating performer & vocalist, with his brilliant ability to tell a story, the way he moves and that voice; damn, is there another voice like it? It comes from the depths deeper than light can penetrate.

That guy is the most talented unknown performer in the history of performers. He is a fuckin' star, and no one knows who he is (mostly). He's the reason I love the group and go see them every chance I get.

And they are filming it tonight. I'm not much for streams & videos in general, and with the Residents especially, IMO what they do has to be seen/experienced live, but I have to think they're taking this show on the road. They've put a lot of effort into it for just two or three performances.

And I LOVED that venue. Very small, very nice, super comfortable and the setting couldn't be better. Plus, ample free parking? In SF??? AMAZING! I hope they add more events I'm interested in because I want to go there again.

Here's a photo my friend took from Friday's show...

They had their camera set up last night, unmanned, & may have filmed it. If they release a DVD I will buy it for sure.

Around here somewhere I have a copy of "Demons Dance Alone".

> Coming to LA...

Glendale, actually, but it's all LA in one sense.

This is tempting, but I'm still leery of indoor shows. I'll be seeing Dylan at the Pantages a couple of nights before this, and don't know if I want to risk things twice in one week.
