I love the Pulse! I listen to all kinds of reggae - but I mostly love the roots and culture of the 1970's and early to mid 1980's. Still love to catch Burning Spear when I am able. Not so many roots performers out there anymore. Toots came through town a few weeks back. Also big fan of Dub from that era - Scratch, Scientist, Mad Professor. And I also love a lot of Adrian Sherwood's On U Sound label offerings.
I put together a spotify playlist called "Natty Roots and Rub-a-DUB" (spelled just that way) that includes over a couple hundred of my favorites - so far - I keep adding tunes. I think it is a public playlist - so anyone could search it out and enjoy!

Thanks for letting me take a mental inventory of some of my favorite reggae experiences. I am rather partial to the old-school rockers.
Pretty blown-away by getting to see Lee "Scratch" Perry OPEN (?WTF?) for The Wailers at tiny old renovated Opera House in downtown Nappa. What a master; and to see him 'mix' live was so key to the experience. (vs. just hearing the music) Really enjoyed getting to see the Wailers at Marin Co. Fair Island stage on the 4th July for free. They did rock The Fox Theatre over in Oaktown a while back.
Toots @ The Fillmore is always an uplifting experience. On a random Tuesday night w/45 min. notice saw The Meditations play at 19 Broadway in Fairfax. I accidentally danced past security VIP check at Higher Festival & was smoking one side-stage when Steel Pulse showed up w/their road crew. I had no idea who i was toking with, until later... hahahaa.
I realize they are Ska but if you can, go see The Skatelites. Your welcome.
A personal "Thank You!!!" to Turtle for turning me onto my first Burning Spear show from his pleadings/postings back at PZ to attend the Higher Vision Festival in Santa Rosa, CA back in 2011? Sooo glad i did. What an incredible vehicle of all things good about reggae music! How can you not appreciate this Estimated Prophet:
Reggae Fest at old woodbury ski and racquet in Ct was mentioned a few times in last days of pz.....
Always a good time...
Interviewed Ziggy Marley once....to this day i dont have a fuckin clue what he said....i just "guessed" alot as i transcribed it and quoted him.....lol

Anyone know of a reggae
Anyone know of a reggae version of Tears of Rage? I've toyed with the idea but don't think I can pull it off.
I mostly hear only "accidental" raggae theses days. Like on the radio.
Or listening to a Phil jam when Adam McDougal is in the linup

Peter Tosh was great live;
Peter Tosh was great live; and probably the best non Dead show I saw (at Stony Brook University, 12/81)
But Bob Marley's repertoire is still in a league of it's own though.
I was the mix-down engineer for a Dennis Brown (a huge reggae star unbeknownst to me) album Inseparables. in 1987.
The producer Willie Lindo didn't want share his herb with me, which I found odd.
