1-10.

I'ma say 3.

I’ll say 2 just because he’s Phil.

2

probably never see the guy live again, i still read up on the new shows though, hoping he announces something worth seeing.

I like the free shows but even those are hard to pull off.

going to Mike Watt tomorrow

This will be my first birthday run since he's been doing at the Cap that I'll miss.

Reasons:

  1. Already have tix for JRAD in Syracuse and Albany on those dates
  2. Winwood is enticing, but not enough to eat the JRAD tix and following recent experience, suspect "rehearsal" will be limited to pre-show soundcheck
  3. Must say I did enjoy Phil with Family Band at Lockn. Since they are playing together so often, they are indeed becoming a "band" which translates to more cohesive playing. In addition, the kids are all improving and certainly playing with vigor. Still not totally psyched on Ross MF James (vocals only good on 1 to 2 songs). However, to give up 2 local JRAD shows to lay out big $$ (tix, travel, hotel, etc.) and more vacation time from work is just not in the cards.

Overall, as the man will be 78 and is still cranking, dependent upon the setting (venue, band members, etc.), I'd still rank seeing him live high.

This is me... Last show 11/11/11

holding steady at 2.

sad days for Phil fans.

i even had to pass on his crystal ballroom run in Portland.

ive seen the family band.

they put me to sleep.

In seeing him 3.  I usually try and check out a song or two when there’s a stream though.

It's been over for a while. I'd rather go see Bob. Just seems like Phil has been flying the middle finger to the fans for years

10 -  streaming free live shows (all)

8 - paying to stream live shows when he's surrounded by pros with perhaps a legend or 2

5 -  paying to stream live shows with the family band and a legend

2 - paying to stream live shows with the family band only ( I sincerely enjoy the family band, but...  )

8 -  Going to a local Phil show  with pros and perhaps a legend or 2

3 -  Paying to see Phil with the family band only

Really comes down to time and money with the rare live shows up here, I rarely seem to have both (and his recent shows sold out so fast, I was in the field, came home and it was too late, announcement, then presales, then sold out, then me going Waaah!)

Tentatively going to see the PhilBob Radio City shows.  If the family band is involved, I am out. As far as Phil & the family band at the Cap, zero interest.  Not even worth a $14.99 webcast.

leaving open hope that he gets motivated to put together a real outfit one more time, but not holding my breath. ive had a good run and '99-'06 was more than i could have ever hoped for.

theres too much other good music to dwell on not getting the phil i want these days.

Good question...I would say overall it is a solid 6. Bump it up to a 7 if Grahame is involved. 9 if Nelson and/or Sless will be on stage with Phil...my main problem is I refuse to pay fees on tickets so live music is rare in my current world until I quit being so cheap...

If he is within 100 miles sure, why not. Considering wanee even though I am not a fan of festivals, I like em, except short sets by almost everyone except headliners. Why

I'm not trying to be a dick here but I honestly have zero interest in seeing Phil again.

Few months ago I paid $20 to see a show at TXR. Phil and Bobby played a duo set in the middle of the show. the duo set sucked. Lost interest and haven't been to another Phil show since. Shocked that they're taking that duo crap  on the road. I mean it was terrible. I will probably still go see Phil if he's playing with some good musicians. No rush though.

phil will be 78....on east coast w winwood??

pretty high...8+

but, like any show , sounds like a commen thought, the price gotta be right, for that, and especially for other shows...unless "special guests" are bowie, jimi, mojo, and or jerry....then i may reconsider....

My interest is high,  a 10

Then based on the lineup it can dwindle

When I look at the expense that can lower it furthur.

Phil & TFB - 2 (with very little travel)

Phil & DNB - 10

Saw Phil and Family Band show and it sucked very very hard. We left before set break- Phil’s kid is not cutout for this.

This is a depressing thread. Looking to keep it positive ...

Interest in seeing Phil  - 9

In kindness will not rate interest in Family Band

Totally OK with family band, there's something very special about that ... even if it doesn't always come across as "face melting" (to us).

Nonetheless, it's kind of like seeing Michael Jordan on the sidelines after he retired ... since he could easily have played another 10 years (in some sort of "role").  So, as long as Phil can walk, he can surely dance ... and just having him living and breathing on this rock with that possibility gives him an automatic 10.

phil 5-7

phil + fam band  0

phil + winwood : 11... but if the fam fam is the band, then...not sure i'm gonna fly for that. what IS the deal for these gigs?

last "phil" show i saw was nelson/sless/law. its been a while.

why's everything so complicated?

Saw Phil with TFB at Central park this summer. I knew what I was in for and I went with zero expectations. It was pretty good.  If they were in my neighborhood again playing a run of 5 shows I might see one.  Give me a free ticket and might see two. My interest in this band is a yawning flat lining 5. Now should Phil play with some good friends who know the music  my interest would rise significantly.

With the Family Band - 0

I’ve seen enough to know I’ve seen enough.

Wish he would play with better musicians but I respect his choice. He’s given us more than we could ever have hoped for. Sad, but it was fun while it lasted.

$50 and fifty miles on any thing in the upper echelon of Grateful Dead music at this point.

in my opinion TFB is weak sauce. not terrible sauce, just weak sauce.

when Phil does shows with TFB it dilutes his thunder and ultimately, his legacy.

current interest in seeing Phil live with pros is 9

current interest in seeing Phil live with TFB is 2

Been seeing Phil with various friends for 48 years. It's not a ratable thing. One of us would have to be Dead for me to not want to hear him play live. With us living 600 miles apart it doesn't happen that often. Any time could be the last time. I'm glad he's coming to Oregon in Feb.

I watch a webcast here and there when they are free. Last time I saw Phil was at xmas jam a few years back. I would go if he played within a 4 hour drive as long as it is not the family band.

a 9 but I miss his "friends".  And no travel more than 2 hours due to life and family band.

very telling thread.

Telling indeed.

There will always be Deadheads with low/no standards, but they are clearly in the minority of the fan base.

Not just Phil but with GD music in general - If I get a free fix or I'm playing the music I'm there. I guess I'm one of the few here that isn't all that offended by the TFB. Not sure why everyone gets all excited. Even if Phil reformed the Q I'm not sure that I would even get off my ass to see them. 5 years ago I would have gladly paid for as many shows as I could hit.

I generally prefer to pay good money to see Phil jamming with Stu Allen.

I know most of you who live outside of the Bay Area could give two shits about Stu Allen - but to my ears, he's the jammiest of the Jerry acolytes out there.

When they get together my interest is high... otherwise I just don't go.

when Phil does shows with TFB it dilutes his thunder and ultimately, his legacy.<<<

He is a 78 year old man who at this stage in his life, values playing music with his son. I'm not crazy about the Family Band either but the notion that his decision to play with TFB somehow tarnishes his legacy, is an off-base and silly thought.

I don't mind the TFB, they are getting better. I really only see them at TXR, which is always a fun time seeing old and new friends. I agree with Treb on Stu Allen he always brings the goods. I like the Scott Law, Stu Allen, Phil combo the best, some good interaction going on.

I miss Midnight North not playing as much because of TFB. I am in San Rafael often these days so always try to drop in to see who is playing in the bar. You just can't complain about a sunny day in Marin.

I'll add to my previous comment - Scott Law is Always worth my money and time - he's fantastic!

When I lived in SF I made it up to TXR once a month but since I moved 2 hours away a couple of years ago I haven’t been back. It has as much to do with Phil’s friends as it does with the Grate Room which I don’t like at all. The room would awesome if they shut the bar and the bathrooms, but the way it is now you are either forced to cram up front and deal with the entitled people up there,  or deal with a constant flow of traffic in the back. It sucks that it has to be that way because the sound is really good no matter where you are.  Yes I’m old and picky.

The outdoor shows look fun but just hasn’t been a priority. Now JRAD anywhere near by and I will be there, even considered Red Rocks and or New Orleans, and I haven’t traveled for Dead music since the 80’s

Given that the days of Phil hitting anywhere relatively close to my side the Great Lakes is minimal at best, I've sorta lost track of what he's up to and with whom. End of the Q was my end of hitting the road for more than a couple hours to see him.

Still enjoyed some of the stuff I heard after - but my current interest in seeing him live is below a scale I can measure.

I don't see him crossing the border back up to Toronto anytime soon. If he did then I would totally jump back on the bandwagon. Even another go round at Shea's in Buffalo would do it for me, but c'mon - gone are the days...

Wow, have to say I am shocked. Whether you enjoy the music they make or not. The Family Band is exactly what Phil should be doing with his remaining time on stage...

^zactly...who wouldnt be doing what he s been doing???

One million...Terrapin family band is Phil’s weakest lineup and still a fun night out w some highs and some lows...wouldn’t fly cross country like the Q days but The Cap always rages...and it’s never just the family band...guests r always involved..

Flame on...

Summer Camp Music Festival will reveal its initial lineup tomorrow, December 21, but today the fest added a special guest to the annual summer event in Phil Lesh, who will be joined by The Terrapin Family Band for his Summer Camp set.

The announcement was made via a video of Lesh interrogating moe. members Al Schnier and Vinnie Amico about their destination as they pack up their van. moe. are co-hosts of Summer Camp along with Umphrey’s McGee. The video also shows Lesh’s son and Terrapin Family Band guitarist Grahame and Everyone Orchestra bandleader Matt Butler joining in on the road trip.

The first round of Summer Camp 2018 artist announcements drops tomorrow. The festival is set to return to Chillicothe, IL, on May 25–27. All festival information can be found here.

I was into it pretty hard in 2001-2002

Interest started to decline after 2003

Saw the Phil/Jackie Green outfit  one night at the Warfield in 2007, somewhat of a snoozefest ....for me anyway.

I still dig Phil- but I've been done with it for years.

99-2003 Some of the best GD music of my life!

Lost all interest after cryan 05.

>>Wow, have to say I am shocked. Whether you enjoy the music they make or not. The Family Band is exactly what Phil should be doing with his remaining time on stage...

I agree 100% with this

But I have 0 interest in seeing it

>Scott Law is Always worth my money and time - he's fantastic!

yes, felt that way for a while about Scott Law. Lebo is no slouch either and with the right group of musicians is also fantastic.

10 if its a local SD show which is never happening

5 in general

You can't blame Phil for wanting to share music and the stage with his son, but I kinda wish Grahame had wanted to be gardener or something...

If I lived in New York or the Bay Area I would say about 6.

Since I live in Asheville and have a great local music scene and will apparently have spend a bundle of time and money to see him I would give it a 1 or 2.

Last couple of times I've seen him (Lockin and Christmas Jam several years ago) I was pretty bored.

Just not worth the travel effort.

 My bday>Phil's bday = 11

What a time it was!

If he needs a shaker I'm there

If I'd have to go w/numbers they'd be Negative if TFB is involved (same dealio w/DeadCo).

I will however give a Heartfelt & Unabashed plug for DSO, the 3 times I saw them in Nov they were really really great, & they were covering '85 era shows, my least favorite GD year, but they played the shows as if Jerry was healthy & not strung out on junk, so it was really good.  The Other One was a half hour long & went off in so many different divergent jams like that live version of Coltrane's My Favorite Things.  Amazing jammy version of Eyes of the World too.  And they jammed on the Playin' in the Band when they covered the 3/31/85 show, post drums, before Day Tripper, unlike the original show.

It was also all under $30/tix in small theatres half full, all 3 shows less than an hour from home, & Mattson can actually sing Jerry ballads passably well.

I'd rather hear Nagan sing than Grahame or Ross . . .

I enjoyed the last Phil & Family Band show I attended,  at Asbury Park a few weeks back.

Maybe it was not absolutely stellar Music for the most part,  but they got in gear for second set,  and it was Fun.

Probably not heading up for Cap Port Chester Show(s) ,  as it is a costly trip from central Jerseyland.

Have a Fun,  all you people attending.

A solid 10. Phil is still Phil.

Probably about a 2.  I haven't really been listening to any GD at all.  It'll always be a thing for me but just not lately.

I’d rather go see bob >>>>>>

Wow. Sounds rough. Not sure if I’m on that level but I also don’t think I’ll ever see Bob again.

Very little, though I would like to see him with a well rehearsed lineup of Pros.

High!

just watched Long Strange Trip (finally!!!)))

Loved when he says

“the wall of sound was like the voice of god”

Then got in my car, drove 25 minutes and walked into TXR bar to him dropping bombs ( for free))

at his own Christmas party

shit never gets old!

May you live long, Phil Lesh!!!!
