The situation is potentially far more dire ... a vast counter intelligence investigation needs to ramp up immediately to mitigate possible signficant national security threats.
If there are counter intelligence issues that exist in real time, I believe the major dilemma will be "containment" of the reality of a rogue US government that has been infiltrated and successfully controlled at the highest levels.

People really think the senate is going to convict trump? Mike Pence is the president of the senate lol. This whole thing is one big media play on wheels trying to get you all emotional. Dems know they'll never get past the senate and so does trump. House will vote and it will get passed to move it to the senate and everybody will be so happy right before the holidays and new year then after being dragged out for another month Trump will water slide to an aqquit. I think you are right Timpane on how this will all play out with the exception of "the dems will have launched baby billionaire boy into his second term."
By the time November rolls around, the impeachment proceedings will be ancient history and won't affect voters either way. The general public's attention span for this will be very short lived, especially because it doesn't have the "XXX" factor of the Clinton deal. Law professors droning on about the Constitution simply doesn't hold people's interest like cum stained dresses.
