Protect Yourself

Forums:

Well the house just voted to let internet service providers sell all your browsing history. This is a big deal because they obviously know EVERYTHING you do on line. Even if you use privacy mode on your browser. It's all part of Making America Great Again.

I have some very geeky friends and this is what they suggest for the soon to be era of everything you do online being for sale.

My suggestion to EVERYONE reading this - get yourself a VPN service. There are several out there. Here is a link comparing two very good services. I use IPVanish, though NordVPN is a good choice too.

Also, if you wanted to learn more about your online privacy:

https://privacytoolsio.github.io/privacytools.io/

It might read like a conspiracy theory website, but it's not. It is real and it is how to learn about maintaining your privacy.

If I search for Courtney Barnett tour dates everyday, will it generate tour dates?

Thanks! Im into the digital privacy thing. I thought they already sold that info actually, but I'll read the link.   Its just too easy to mine peoples information.  Tin foil hat?

Great point about protecting yourself.

This reminds me of the episode of the Sopranos where AJ goes out into the back yard at night and is confronted by a large bear! He starts crying out for his Mom and luckily Carmella is in the kitchen and hears him crying out. She grabs a couple of pots from the kitchen and runs outside banging them together which of course causes the bear to flee.

Of course this all happens shortly after Tony and Carmella have separated because of that STUPID DRUNK RUSSIAN BITCH who had to call Tony's home phone and tell Carmella just what she and Tony (and her one-legged cousin) had been up to. (Tony was fucking them).

BUT ANYWAY, because of the bear, Tony had Benny from his crew go by Carmella's house at night and sit in the back yard with a machine gun in case it popped up again.

In a way it's very similar to this VPN shit.

I'M NOT SCARED ! NEVER EVER !

Paranoid Internet FREAKS..... Ha Ha !

It’s not about being paranoid. The government is going to track you no matter what you do. It’s about making sure that Comcast doesn’t get to profit on my browsing history, and trust me Comcast will be selling that information to employment background check companies, life insurance companies, mortgage companies. How many companies are going to hire someone who spent the last three months checking out cancer sites.

Browse from a library.

Good looking out

I use Opera Browser that has a built-in 'VPN' that's really just a proxy.  In an article from last year, explanation:

UPDATE: Saturday, 23 April, 05:56 AM PT – The head engineer of Opera for computers Krystian Kolondra reached out to us with a comment.

“In our case we are coming with a new term: a browser VPN – and our goal is that all the network activity from the browser is actually routed via our secure proxy – unlike the usual proxies that only route the web traffic. So it’s different than a system wide VPN but it’s also different than a proxy. Thus – a browser VPN. Currently WebRTC and plugins are still not routed that way – but we’re very open about this – we’ve just released this as a developer preview and planning to fix this in the coming updates.”

Opera has an effective ad-blocker built in also.

I don't have an ISP exactly, I'm using an android fone with a tethering app for internet.  So is my surfing logged by someone?  Not my ISP per se.
