I  miss this man who could actually think and articulate ideas, unlike the current occupant.

Former President Barack Obama says the same innovations in technology that helped make his historic election possible have now evolved to exacerbate the nation's political divides, keeping many Americans inside partisan "bubbles" of their own making.

In a rare extended interview, Obama tells David Letterman that social media and the increasing personalization of many Americans' information streams has led to the reinforcing of biases.

"One of the biggest challenges we have to our democracy is the degree to which we don't share a common baseline of facts," the 44th president told Letterman for his new Netflix series, "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction." "What the Russians exploited but it was already here is we are operating in completely different information universes. If you watch Fox News, you are living on a different planet than you are if you listen to NPR."

"That's what's happening with these Facebook pages where more and more people are getting their news from. At a certain point you just live in a bubble," he said. "And that's part of why our politics is so polarized right now. I think it is a solvable problem but it's one we have to spend a lot of time thinking about."

did he ever say "trust me"

Living proof that being able to "think and articulate" don't amount to much when it comes to actually getting things accomplished.

What would you like to have been accomplished under Obama Tom? And on the flip side what has the current president accomplished, of course devoid of his inability to entertain reality?

>What would you like to have been accomplished under Obama

0 tax

0 unemployment

0 immigration

0 abortions

>>>>>0 tax

How would that work?

federal tax is unconstitutional

Supreme Court disagrees

Leaving aside the constitutionality of the Fed. tax system, how would the country be without it?

The word shithole comes to mind.

i don't care how it would be without it

And there you have it.

have what?

do you think i'm arguing with you here?

lol

Many years ago I was a shithead but now I'm just a fool and proud of it !

that's mean

Arguing?

No.

I was asking for a clarification of your post, which you provided.

you are not the brightest bulb surf

Thanks - that means a lot coming from you.

i know it does

what a fuckin scrub

Most of Obama's proposals were republican plans.  Since the Republicans publicly stated they'd block all his legislation (which they did), very little got passed.  But I thought it was pretty brilliant to make the Republicans fight and argue against their own ideas...   hypocrisy knows no bounds.  History will show Obama to be one of the better republican presidents, just like Clinton was...  (we haven't seen an actual democrat pushing democratic ideas since Carter).  They're all corporatist, just look at who they appoint to fill cabinet positions.  How many FDA chiefs under both parties were from Monsanto? (now owned by Bayer),  or wall street folks, etc...    Divide and conquer was meant for us, not them...   (they just have to put on a good show)

Cut the check baby!

well said noodle

bunch of sheep i tell ya

As much as I respect Carter, which many don't, what did he accomplish by being an 'actual' democrat? Equating ideals with the current state of politics is a fools game and has no place at the table. If you actually think that a nube can step into the chair and be successful, without having any ties to corporate interests, you're a fool.

"One of the biggest challenges we have to our democracy is the degree to which we don't share a common baseline of facts,"

What is this baseline of facts he speaks of, and where can it be found?

> what did he accomplish by being an 'actual' democrat? <

i don't know what that means.

i guess he won the election?
