Sonoma County....now I want some Clam Chowder too.
Hubby wants to invent a bacon strip baked into a sour dough stick, for Clam Chowder dipping. Not sure this can be done from a chemistry standpoint. Experiments forthcoming.

While recognizing that you didn't -- if you had asked me for advice, I would vehemently recommend that you first cook the bacon the way you normally do, before wrapping any dough around it. Pretty sure it'll be mad yucky otherwise.
Now I will say something about the weather.
The two feet of snow has turned to ice. Most of it is still white and looks a lot like snow. It's not, though.
Ice is a fucking drag. Honestly, I don't even like it in drinks, unless it's crushed up (such as in a frozen).
Hopefully I will never fall on a hard surface ever again for the rest of my life. Came close just before, when I was getting out of the car and that's why I know it's all faux snow now.
Big thick sheet of ice in a snow costume. ::sigh::
It is still pretty in the visual sense, when you look at it from inside a warm house.
I was just thinking of you guys, Jamjuice... hope the house lift is keeping you well above the potential flood waters. (post some pics if you get a chance)
Its all good Hall, we are high and can ride out any flood. The issues is when the river comes up the backyard, underneath the house and into the street. Then you can get stranded either in the house, or outside of it until the water subsides.
But sometimes it's fun to be marooned, if you've got nothing else going on, plenty of wine and tunes. It's a front row seat to the awesome power of Mother nature.
Ya See After Years of Drought 6 years?- Nature Corrects Itself = It Is Fantastic Overall ( minus damage and inconvienence ). The Rivers Creeks and TreesnPlants Are So Happy Thank You Rain gods
wild, Jamjuice!... not sure I would feel comfortable sleeping with that much water under/around me.
We got another 3 plus inches in the last 24 in the mountains here causing HWY 17 to slide in a different place (near Los Gatos)... it's now completely closed, as is another Southern route (Hwy 129)... amazingly, we haven't had an runs on grocery stores (Lites would be proud!).
Hwy 9 (heading North just out of Santa Cruz).. what a mess.
Has any of this emergency management situation done anything to dissuade the secede/Yes movement? Seems like y'all will want FEMA to pay for a bunch of things first.
lol, yeah, wishful thinking, T. after the quake, I hoped for the same thing, but it's only gotten worse... something like 75,000 cars per day go over 17.. fucking insane.
6, you were pretty 'vocal' about your concerns for California when we were in drought/fire season... glad to see you finally giving floodslide season some attention.
Kai and I had another 3 days of hiking in Fort Ord over the long weekend. Wet, wet, wet. And extremely strong winds yesterday afternoon. There were a few trees and large shrubs which had fallen over between hikes.
We arrived late Friday evening to find my Mom's backyard fence had blown down and the cap of a skylight whisked away to allow a puddle in the kitchen (she had been away for a week, so we did our best to clean up and batten down the hatches).
It was a relief to get back home late last night, with no significant drama (looks like we drove through Morgan Hill area just in time).
Oh, right. I didn't realize how far north Fernwood was. Thanks for the clarification.

This is what happens when
This is what happens when millions do the rain dance (for a couple years)...
there are no undamaged roads out of Santa Cruz county... VERY thankful I don't have to commute.
hwy 17 a couple miles up from us has been sliding more with every storm (2nd slide flipped this truck over the barrier into the oncoming lane).
so hwy 17 has been down to one lane each way for weeks now causing 2 to 3 hour delays for what was already a gnarly commute:
and the best alternate to hwy 17, Soquel San Jose road, is sinking and closed to all but residents:
Hwy 1 North of Santa Cruz is down to one lane as it slips into the Sea:
a HUGE section Skyline (hwy 35) near hwy 9 and Castle Rock is just gone:
Hwy 152 over Hecker Pass closed:
and no end to the rain in sight...
send some vibes, y'all
