POUNDING Rain

Forums:

Ventura County................

Contra Costa County....

We've got the pounding rain and some crazy winds up here in the hills, Rob. My street is flowing with mud and tumbling rocks.

Good day for Clam Chowder later.

WINDY here too Mike

sunny, blue skies and 60s here! :-)

Sunny and windy..high 30 s...gonna be 50 this wknd though....spring is on route, fck the groundhog!

I'm having a roast beef sandwich

What Drought ?...................

Sonoma County....now I want some Clam Chowder too.

Hubby wants to invent a bacon strip baked into a sour dough stick, for Clam Chowder dipping.  Not sure this can be done from a chemistry standpoint.  Experiments forthcoming.

Cook bacon and cut into bits before adding it to the dough.

Chemistry shmemistry....just do it...sounds great

Trick is to have the bacon intact, one strip surrounded by bread...I doubt this can be done.

REALLY Pounding Now and Sideways Winds !

We've had about 3 inches of rain already today, which is about 25% of our annual total.

Raining here in the Sierra Foothills. The big storm is coming Monday.

Quick Store Run - To The Elements I Go !  FAST !

This is what happens when millions do the rain dance (for a couple years)...

there are no undamaged roads out of Santa Cruz county... VERY thankful I don't have to commute.

hwy 17 a couple miles up from us has been sliding more with every storm (2nd slide flipped this truck over the barrier into the oncoming lane).

img_39511.jpg

so hwy 17 has been down to one lane each way for weeks now causing 2 to 3 hour delays for what was already a gnarly commute:

stc-l-mthighway-0211-0111.jpg

and the best alternate to hwy 17, Soquel San Jose road, is sinking and closed to all but residents:

Hwy 1 North of Santa Cruz is down to one lane as it slips into the Sea:

a HUGE section Skyline (hwy 35) near hwy 9 and Castle Rock is just gone:

Hwy 152 over Hecker Pass closed:

and no end to the rain in sight...

send some vibes, y'all

While recognizing that you didn't -- if you had asked me for advice, I would vehemently recommend that you first cook the bacon the way you normally do, before wrapping any dough around it. Pretty sure it'll be mad yucky otherwise.

Now I will say something about the weather.

The two feet of snow has turned to ice. Most of it is still white and looks a lot like snow. It's not, though.

Ice is a fucking drag. Honestly, I don't even like it in drinks, unless it's crushed up (such as in a frozen).

Hopefully I will never fall on a hard surface ever again for the rest of my life. Came close just before, when I was getting out of the car and that's why I know it's all faux snow now.

Big thick sheet of ice in a snow costume.  ::sigh::

It is still pretty in the visual sense, when you look at it from inside a warm house.

Brightday, Stay safe on that treacherous ice.  Agree on the pre-cooked bacon part.  Still might be a goopy, mess as the bread cooks, we shall see.

Wild photos Hall.  Mudslides sure are scary stuff.  Three cheers for the emergency responders, those folks are working hard.

In Newhall 12 Parked Cars Taken Out By A HUGE Tree !

I was just thinking of you guys, Jamjuice... hope the house lift is keeping you well above the potential flood waters. (post some pics if you get a chance)

Its all good Hall, we are high and can ride out any flood.  The issues is when the river comes up the backyard, underneath the house and into the street.  Then you can get stranded either in the house, or outside of it until the water subsides.

But sometimes it's fun to be marooned, if you've got nothing else going on, plenty of wine and tunes.  It's a front row seat to the awesome power of Mother nature.

Stay high and dry everybody!

cool

def post pics next time you're stranded.

DSO show in South Lake on Sunday should be interesting. Going to have to get up early and get out before 50 washes out again

Hang in there, Cali peeps!!

Storm passed  it Rained for 33 Plus  Non Stop hours Here w 5 plus inches of Gods Rain

wild, Jamjuice!... not sure I would feel comfortable sleeping with that much water under/around me.

We got another 3 plus inches in the last 24 in the mountains here causing HWY 17 to slide in a different place (near Los Gatos)... it's now completely closed, as is another Southern route (Hwy 129)... amazingly, we haven't had an runs on grocery stores (Lites would be proud!).

Hwy 9 (heading North just out of Santa Cruz).. what a mess.

Even the disaster pics of CA are beautiful.

Good luck folks.

I gotta think a lot of googler/silicon valley commuters will be re-locating after this... spending 3 to 6 hours a day in traffic is no way to live.

> gotta think a lot of googler/silicon valley commuters will be re-locating after this<

jeepers, that would be terrible!

Has any of this emergency management situation done anything to dissuade the secede/Yes movement? Seems like y'all will want FEMA to pay for a bunch of things first.

My vibes and thoughts are with you all.

lol, yeah, wishful thinking, T. after the quake, I hoped for the same thing, but it's only gotten worse... something like 75,000 cars per day go over 17.. fucking insane.

6, you were pretty 'vocal' about your concerns for California when we were in drought/fire season... glad to see you finally giving floodslide season some attention.

Kai and I had another 3 days of hiking in Fort Ord over the long weekend.  Wet, wet, wet.  And extremely strong winds yesterday afternoon.  There were a few trees and large shrubs which had fallen over between hikes.

We arrived late Friday evening to find my Mom's backyard fence had blown down and the cap of a skylight whisked away to allow a puddle in the kitchen (she had been away for a week, so we did our best to clean up and batten down the hatches).

It was a relief to get back home late last night, with no significant drama (looks like we drove through Morgan Hill area just in time).

Best of luck to all of you who are affected.

Grass Valley got another 4 inches of rain yesterday with 50 mph winds last night.

The ski resorts got 3 ft or more of new snow after raining early in the day.

Hall, despite my dislike of elitism espoused by some citizens of California, I deeply love the state of California and its people.

Yeah it stopped raining !!! This is the road to get to my winery in Forestville...been away on and of for 2 months...because of rains

Holy Crap!!!  I just found out that The Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge (Big Sur) is about to collapse:

http://www.montereyherald.com/general-news/20170222/pfeiffer-canyon-brid...

Not exactly sure what this means about that CRB Festy...

I woke up to a blanket of snow today. It turned really cold, hailed some, then we got a inch of snow.

That confound bridge is South of Fernwood, Johnny, but right now Hwy 1 North of Fernwood is also closed due to slides (at Palo Colorado).

and the way this year is going, I wouldn't be surprised if storms continue to ravage the area all the way through April and into May.

Oh, right.  I didn't realize how far north Fernwood was.  Thanks for the clarification.

From the article:

"According to the Big Sur Volunteer Fire Brigade, Specialized Helicopters is flying those who are stranded from Post Ranch to Monterey Regional Airport for $780."

Fernwood is the red pin. The road is closed for a long distance right now!
