I always just leave them in original tubes when I get them...probably not right but. ....probably 100 or so of what I would consider rare are flat....early Dead......
the acid from the tube could hurt the print eventually, but it would take a long time. Never heard of ink cracking. From the posts on a couple of the fb print groups I read prints can be kept for years in tubes and then flattened successfully. However, you are denying yourself of the beauty of the print in doing so. Its worthwhile to pick up a couple sheets of acid free boards to hold them flat and start unrolling and flattening. Look for a flat file cabinet on craigslist to keep them in so you can look at them or pick up a artist portfolio with mylar sleeves.I had about 80, ex took 40, now I am back around 50. Keep them flat in a home made portfolio so I can look at them and shop the cheap frames from time to time and hang them up.
I'm aware of the acidity....but for some reason.....after 20 years they look perfect....fate I guess.....cleaned out dead.net after Jerry passed...(love you jerry).....they sold posters in blocks...sent flat and still unopened... maybe I dont want to see my life in reverse.....yea I do...
