He got stuck up on his platform during Phish’s post-midnight performance and had to get rescued from an adjacent platform after the official show had ended.
It was almost certainly real, and if it were any other band there would be no question, which is one of the many great things about Phish, because no other band would even go to the trouble of doing something like that type of set, and with no other band would anyone consider for a moment that the malfunction was a prank. But it's Phish, so there's just the tiniest thread of a possibility.
Ultimately it's too bad because it pretty much ruined the focus of the set, which with the clone dancers and band above the stage was a great idea and must have looked incredible in the building.
It seems a bit odd that they didn't get him off that thing right away, but that would have created a whole other series of issues... how do they go on with the show as planned? They would have had to ditch the dancers and set up Trey's onstage rig again. But if the thing was broken it could have lurched or dropped, which definitely would have made the evening news. But the show must go on!
And yet, singing "we are all together" lyrics while he was only one abovs stage seemed so.....phishy..(pun intended). After watching it again w the pro video shot, im convinced it was "on the level" (again)
Trey looked genuinly thrilled w these two guys that helped him over to Fishmans rig and then lowered down.
The other weird coincedence was his MSG "pan" story all week, about how its his favorite venue, even going on to talk about how great the people that wrkd there were....the whole thing is just so strange, but it shows me that sometimes real life is crazier than fiction...
Wait, wait, wait, you're all overthinking this thing. The truth is right there in front of you. Trey's rig was obviously a set-up. The fact that it was skewed to one corner was a clue to those who were hip to it that things 'were not on the level'. Then, factor in that it was the green platform stuck at the top, this is a clear sign about the state of politics and the world today. The reds, blues and yellows are all on on their way out, but not the green, aka the planet, climate change, legal ganja. It's coming soon. But the process is stuck, see, which is why the Rescue Squad is going to come to help things out. Here I'm still not clear if this is a reference to a massive dictatorial Illuminati takeover of the planet in an ecofriendly tyranny that will last for thousands of years (Novus Ordum Seclorum) or if its a reference to the Alien lifeforms that will likely be making their presence known in the next few years to come provide some relief and helping tips on how to manage our planet and offer free-ride back to another solar system for those who don't want to wait out the next 100 years of climate devastation on our own planet (these off-world beings are the same ones referenced in Petrichor - "and ladders will come down from the sky"). So yeah, it's all pretty clear.
I totally want one of those t-shirts.
Headlight, man, I respect your Phish opinions so much. You've always been a huge and articulate fan. But I so disagree with you on the fall tour assessment, I gotta say. I've only got one or two shows left to listen to and I've dug what I've heard so much. So many amazing jams and well-played tunes, and interesting (if not always successful) musical digressions and changes. The only show I didn't dig mostly was the second one with all the fucking THX nonsense. But yeah, good times. And I love the lovey dovey new age guru tunes. God bless Trey's beautiful little soul for doing all he can to bring love and beauty and comfort into these crazy-ass times...
Wow Javs, I don't think anyone's written that much about that band, ever. You should submit that to Rolling Stone.
Some really nice moments, till they started singing , or spoken word or whatever you call that buzz killing nonsense that flows outta their mouths. If they'd just shit can all attempts at vocals I might be able to enjoy em
4winds - in that clip (finally watched it) the malfunction seems to happen at around the 6:30 mark. Treys platform leans and gets stuck. It never moves after that and they keep playing several songs. At the end he gets rescued while joking about it.

Just another odd chapter to the Phish saga.

I imagine that's nothing compared to what's likely happening on the Phish discussion boards.
And it's probably pretty close as well. As I was just reading it I thought it possible that Javs just copy/pasted that from a Phish board.
And that shirt is funny and an excellent idea.
