Anyone going to Phish next week in Nashville? I was involved with the whole Curveball debacle so I'm especially pumped for these. Going down with my buddy.
Not sure if the rig has changed since Dick's, but I thought it was a cool approach. The entire rig was being raised and lowered to change the "size" of the stage. When low, it felt like a club setting, with the lights right above their heads. Then they would rise up for a big-room feel. I was high, so maybe this never happened.
The "New Lighting Rig" is what they broke out starting w/ the 13-show MSG run last July (The Baker's Dozen). Kuroda and a few assistant lighting techs run it all, although it does take extra crew to set it all up. It is definitely quite the spectacle to behold.
Not sure if Phish Inc. actually own all that lighting gear; I think they rent or lease it. Someone more up-to-date with interviews and PR might chime in.
Anyway, have a Blast in Nashville. When the Autumn Tour dates were announced, the Ryman gigs were the pair I thought about attending. Never been to Nashville, but heard great things. Nice small-ish venue and lots of other Music all over the place.
Without sounding too innie, Chris was explaining to me the physics of the light rig and how it all works as the lights spin and move, as well as the switches for the X, Y and Z axes.
It made no sense to me, and I told him that it’s badass!

I guess the venue only holds 6800 people too so it should be nice, intimate shows.
